Celebrating Student And Motion Picture Films

SCAD Savannah Film Festival 2023 Kicks Off This Weekend 1

The annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival begins this weekend, featuring big names like Kevin Bacon, Eva Longoria, Lulu Wang and more.

The SCAD Savannah Film Festival is back again in Savannah, Georgia! The red carpet will be rolling out on Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, for some amazing guests such as Bob and Erin Odenkirk, Jimmy Chin and Hoyte van Hoytema. The festival will be hosting a mountain of guests from various specializations in the film/TV industry. It will be running from Saturday, October 21 to Saturday, October 28, and CGMagazine will be there to see a good amount of it. Did I mention that Kevin Bacon, Eva Longoria and Lulu Wang would also be attending?

The SCAD Savannah Film Festival will be celebrating its 26th year, continuing to offer SCAD students the opportunity to submit and showcase their own films amongst the selected major pictures. Based on the SCAD website, there were “more than 2,100 submissions for the competition series!” Some notable submissions we were able to catch at the SCAD AnimationFest 2023 included Goro Goro (Directors Ryotaro Sawada and Agatha Tiara Christa) and The Last Dungeon (Director Alexandra Young).

This year also marks the opening of its new, immaculate 11-acre Hollywood-styled backlot expansion. Now, Savannah Film Studios will include a Hollywood-style film backlot, a next-generation LED volume for virtual production and multi-camera soundstages. We cannot wait to see it and provide more details on how this campus looks to be the largest and most comprehensive university film studio complex in the U.S.

“The future of film lives at SCAD, where audiences can see next year’s Oscar winners at our SCAD Savannah Film Festival later this month and where guests are treated to a BTS tour of the latest and greatest SCAD triumph: the new backlot at Savannah Film Studios, the largest at any university in the world,” said SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace. “From Savannah cityscapes to a courthouse square and suburbs, the backlot is a paradise for our Bees and other area filmmakers. Come see everything for yourself!”

We will also be getting the chance to get a deeper look inside some of this year’s hit films from professionals of various backgrounds who have worked on films like Barbie, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and much more. Many of which will be receiving awards at the festival. But it is not only the released films that will have a major focus at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. We will also be taking a look at films such as The Bikeriders (Austin Butler, Tom Hardy), Poor Things (Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo), and more.
