CES 2025: Sony Announces Ghost of Tsushima, Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn Adaptations

CES 2025 is in full swing, and Sony Pictures brought some heavy hitting game adaptation announcements to the show including Horizon Zero Dawn.

At its CES 2025 show, Sony unveiled a wealth of new details surrounding upcoming video game adaptations. In a slate that already includes adaptations of hit gaming franchises like the upcoming God of War adaptation, Uncharted, The Last of Us and Twisted Metal have already made the jump from game to film/TV series. The Last of Us in particular has reached meteoric levels of popularity and won numerous awards, so Sony may be seeking to capture lightning in a bottle twice.

The latest round of adaptations from Sony revealed at CES 2024 include new movies based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn. PlayStation Studios’ Asad Qizilbash and Screen Gems’ Ashley Brucks both revealed more details about the Helldivers 2 film adaptation which will be made by Screen Gems, a distribution studio that is a division of Sony Pictures Group. Aside from the Screen Gems studio announcement nothing else has been revealed about Helldivers the movie.

Both presenters also dove into the upcoming Until Dawn film adaptation scheduled to launch this year. Peter Stormare, who appeared in Until Dawn and will also appear in the film adaptation, but Stormare insisted the film will pay homage to the video game of the same name and not be a direct adaptation. Until Dawn launches on April 25, 2025.

Sony’s presentation at CES 2025 also revealed a partnership with Crunchyroll to make an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. Crunchyroll’s Rahul Purini announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, is in the works and will be based loosely off of the title’s “Legends” multiplayer mode. The anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, and will launch sometime in 2027.

Sony also revealed Guerilla Games’ Horizon series will be in fact getting a film adaptation. The Horizon series (starting with Horizon Zero Dawn) has seen itself branch into other mediums already with a LEGO game release, and a VR spinoff called Horizon Call of the Mountain. Horizon’s Aloy has also made an appearance in Genshin Impact as a playable character, but the new adaptation appears to be a film and no further details were revealed about the previously announced Netflix series from 2022.

Lastly, Sony’s CES 2025 show revealed a new trailer for the upcoming The Last of Us season two, and the trailer reveals the show will be returning to Max in April 2025.
