Netflix revealed the teaser trailer and more voice cast members for the upcoming anime adaptation, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, at AnimeNYC.
Netflix has been teasing the upcoming video game adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series for months, and this week at AnimeNYC, Ubisoft has finally unveiled a fresh trailer for the return of Sam Fisher (in animated form), complete with a premiere date on the streaming service. Fans of the espionage series will notice Sam Fisher has aged, but he remains as hardened as he was at the end of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
Deathwatch‘s trailer implies the events of the series occur after Chaos Theory, as the funeral explored in the trailer is of Sam’s former comrade-in-arms, Douglas Shetland (whom he killed during the events of that game). While it’s unclear to viewers what his current mission is in Deathwatch, Sam says it’s personal. The trailer can be seen below.
Accompanying Liev Schreiber (who was recently revealed as the voice behind Sam Fisher) in the cast is Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman, The Good Place) as Zinnia McKenna, Janet Varney (The Legend of Korra) as Anna Grimsdottir, and Joel Oulette (Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender series) as Thunder. Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is produced by Ubisoft, in partnership with the animation studios Sun Creature and Fost. Derek Kolstad (known for John Wick) serves as head writer and executive producer, with Guillame Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage taking on directing duties. Executive Producers include Ubisoft Film & Television’s Helene Juguet, Hugo Revon, and Gérard Guillemot.
Netflix is no stranger to video game adaptations, with former and upcoming series showing the streaming giant’s commitment to gaming adaptations. It’s worth mentioning the streaming giant just inked a fresh deal with Ubisoft regarding another hit series in its game catalogue, Assassin’s Creed. While that series is still very early in production, fans won’t have to wait so long for Deathwatch to land on screens.
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch lands exclusively on Netflix on October 14.
