After news of a bidding war for film rights escalated, the film adaptation of Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction video game has cast Sydney Sweeney as a lead for the film.

Just one month ago it was revealed that Hazelight Studios’ latest co-op game, Split Fiction, would be coming to the silver screen if Hollywood wants. During the Game Developers Conference 2025, unnamed sources claimed the media company Story Kitchen was putting together a package of movie professionals to make the film adaptation movie rights more appealing. At the time of that report, “top Hollywood studios” have reportedly made offers for the film rights.

The previous reports of media company Story Kitchen’s involvement have now been confirmed, as Variety reports today the Split Fiction film will be produced by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson’s Story Kitchen (formerly known as dj2 Entertainment). On top of Story Kitchen’s involvement, popular actress Sydney Sweeney has just been cast as one of the main roles in the film, with Jon M. Chu directing, and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool & Wolverine) have signed on for scriptwriting duties.

Hazelight Studios Split Fiction drags two authors, Mio and Zoe, who each write their selected genre of Fiction (sci-fi and fantasy) into their own written worlds, and they have to work together to make it through. Hazelight Studios is known for its focus on cooperative gameplay, with It Takes Two following a similar gameplay pattern and earning GOTY honours back in 2021. It is currently unknown which protagonist Sydney Sweeney will be portraying in the film.

The Split Fiction film appears to be in good hands, as Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson’s Story Kitchen has helmed adaptations like Netflix’s Tomb Raider and the fan-favourite Sonic the Hedgehog film series. The rest of the cast and a production schedule have yet to be announced.
