Square Enix CEO Announces Tomb Raider Sequel

A sequel to the critically acclaimed 2013 Tomb Raider reboot is confirmed for next-generation, according to Phil Rogers, Square Enix’s Chief Executive Officer for the Americas and Europe.

The announcement regarding Tomb Raider’s sequel comes from the development of a comic book that would act as a continuation of the Tomb Raider reboot. In an interview with Kotaku in July, comic book veteran Gail Simone (who is working with publisher Dark Horse on the project) said the comic would be Tomb Raider canon and segue into the sequel.

A commercial success, this year’s Tomb Raider reboot introduced players to a young and ordinary Lara Croft, who treads on a journey that tests the limits of her abilities and survivor skills. Unfortunately, the reboot’s success proved to be unsatisfactory for Square Enix, as it failed to meet sales targets.
