If you’re chomping at the bit for more after finishing the climactic ending of Squid Game Season 2, the good news is that there’s a new season on the way, and you won’t even have to wait as long this time.
Squid Game Season 3 is currently planned to release sometime in Summer or Fall 2025, and it’s going to be the show’s final season. It seems like creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had a pretty fleshed out plan for the three-season run, which even ended with these last two seasons being filmed back to back. Dong-hyuk explained it to Deadline, saying,
“I wrote seasons two and three at the same time, and we were in production for both simultaneously, and currently we are in the post-production process for season three,” Hwang said. “When I was writing the script for the two seasons, I felt like there was a big turning point or an inflection point, and that was the end of episode seven, so I thought that it would do it justice to have a separate season after that. That’s why I had first seven episodes as season two and then the rest of season three.”
We don’t currently know how many episodes will be in Season 3, but considering Season 2 lowered the count down to 7 (from 9 in Season 1), it’s possible it could be less as well.
Squid Game Season 2 is set three years after the first, with Seong Gi-hun giving up on travelling to the United States and returning home with a new resolution. He dives headfirst into another life-and-death game to see it through.
The second season has already received loads of critical praise on its release. Mr. Beast has even gotten in on the fun, by asking fans if he should recreate Squid Game Season 2 in a video, like he did with the first.
Squid Game Season 1 and 2 are currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
