The first teaser poster throws it back to the franchise’s 1970s roots, going with a more hand-painted look. While there is not a lot about the finer details of the plot of this film, the premise invites a lot of early speculation.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.
One of the coolest parts of the poster is that it includes Garazeb Orrelios, commonly known as Zeb, from the Star Wars Rebels animated series. Zeb is an integral crew member of the Spectres, which contained key Rebel Alliance members—such as General Hera Syndulla, Commander Sabine Wren, and Jedi Ezra Bridger. He was last seen in live-action form in The Mandalorian Season 3. As the New Republic is stretched thin to maintain order and squash the remaining Imperial influences, he could be pivotal to helping Din and Grogu accomplish their mission as part of the Resistance. The trailer shows him in combat against some Stormtroopers in a hallway.
As for the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, we see Weaver joining the Star Wars universe as New Republic Colonel Ward. She looks to be the person recruiting Din and Grogu to help them. Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) was cast to provide the voice of Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son. Rotta was first introduced in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It is really cool that Favreau and Filoni’s worlds are colliding in a live-action format.
The Anzellans also return because…sure, they are now mainstay characters. But do not laugh about their return quite yet. The Anzellans tend to Din’s repair of his latest ship, the modified N-1 starfighter. This may also lead to introducing Babu Frik, who was last seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
While not a person, AT-ATs are back on the big screen. The trailer for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu showed the giant Imperial transport walkers crossing a narrow cliff. One of them falls from the ledge. There is no context for their presence on the cliffs, but it may relate to how the First Order is operating in the shadows.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is a companion story to the Disney+ series, The Mandalorian. This is a story not to be missed for fans of the show. The film will be screened in IMAX theatres where available, on May 22nd, 2026.
