StarCraft shooter rumours have run rampant, and on Friday, Blizzard Entertainment posted a job listing that may have opened a new wave of rumours.
Blizzard Entertainment has had a busy week, with the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct stream concluding with a new look at the Warcraft Battle Chest, and the announcement that the Battle.net platform will unleash Avowed directly on the site at launch. Today, a new rumour has sparked regarding a potential unannounced upcoming StarCraft first-person-based shooting title. Rumours have been running rampant regarding a shooting title based on the StarCraft universe, and today’s starts with a job listing.

For the uninitiated, Jason Schreier’s book exposing problems at Blizzard Entertainment, Play Nice revealed Blizzard is making a third attempt at developing a shooter based on the lore and mythos of the StarCraft universe. The upcoming shooter is reportedly being led by former Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay who joined Blizzard Entertainment in 2022, and Schreier states his new book wasn’t meant to reveal new news or “drop scoops” it was just intended to inform about the struggles Blizzard faced in 2020-2022.
Regarding the new shooter rumour, job listings for an “unannounced” open-world game have appeared on Blizzard’s career recruitment page, and are hiring lead positions for an open-world shooter game. The listing direct from Blizzard’s website reads “As the Design Director of Innovation, you will be the vision holder and owner of key strategic innovations on an upcoming open-world shooter game.” Other details regarding the title are currently scarce, with fans waiting for any kind of official announcement on a potential StarCraft title.

It’s worth mentioning that Blizzard Entertainment has not released a new StarCraft title since StarCraft: Remastered in 2017, and with such a gap in new titles for the popular series, fans likely want to see any return to the universe sooner rather than later. Fans should also note that while speculation is fun, nothing official has been announced yet, so rumours should be taken with a grain of salt until an official report is made.
