Stardew Valley Farmers Are Warned, Avoid The Switch 2 Free Upgrade Until Patch Arrives

Stardew Valley launched its free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade on Christmas Day, but now reported bugs have forced the Stardew creator to tell fans to ‘hold off for now.’

After a Nintendo Switch 2 version upgrade was teased for nearly as long as the console has been available, Stardew Valley’s free update launched on Christmas, giving fans a chance to jump back in and explore. However, players have reported numerous bugs, most notably disappearing inventory items during crafting. As a result, users have been warning one another on forums to hold off until Stardew Valley “calls the exterminators.” Now, the game’s creator has also cautioned players about the issue. ConcernedApe took to X, formerly Twitter, to inform fans about what has been affected so far, as outlined below.

Originally, the creator told fans on Christmas Day that he was aware of “some issues” with the Nintendo Switch 2 version update and took full responsibility for the issues identified to date while investigating. Just five days later, he had warned players about the update and what it could cause them to lose.

So, if fans haven’t upgraded their game to the free Nintendo Switch 2 version, Stardew Valley’s creator has advised fans to hold off “since the crafting bug can cause you to lose items,” and the Nintendo Switch 2 free upgrade for the UK will be postponed until the patch is released. Recipes that have been ‘disappearing’ items from inventories are listed below (so fans SHOULD NOT use these if they’ve updated!).

  • Blue Glass Starter
  • Heavy Furnace
  • Deluxe Worm Bin
  • Fish Smoker
  • Mushroom Log
  • Speed-Gro
  • Treasure Totem
  • Statue of Blessings
  • Deluxe Bait
  • Challenge Bait
  • Moss Soup

Stardew Valley is already hard at work on Update 1.7, and a patch to fix the Nintendo Switch 2 version has been ordered, so fans will have to wait longer for the next major title update.
