Although Steve Carell has other acting jobs lined up, in a recent interview, he said that he will not be in the planned new setting reboot of The Office, which is set in the same universe.
In an interview discussing the new film IF — in which Steve Carell stars alongside former The Office co-actor John Krasinski — Carell dispelled any rumours on whether he will be featured in the new series reboot. The short answer is no, but Carell also told The Hollywood Reporter, “I will be watching, but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,” regarding a potential appearance as Michael Scott in the new series.

Steve Carell continued “But I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads; I did The Patient with him, and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it’ll be great.” A previous Deadline report has said that Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus) will star in the show, and Greg Daniels and Michael Koman will serve as showrunners.

The new series will feature the same documentary crew and universe as the Scranton Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, and the documentary crew will this time follow a struggling Midwestern newspaper that is trying to return to prominence. Outside of the barebones details, not much else is known about the new series set in the same universe as The Office.
Steve Carell’s new film IF, starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski will release in theatres everywhere on May 17.
