Team Asobi Is PlayStation Studios Newest Addition 1

Team Asobi, the development team responsible for Astro’s Playroom and Astrobot: Rescue Mission have been established as their own studio under PlayStation Studios, making them the latest addition to Sony’s first-party lineup.

The announcement came via the official PlayStation blog, that Team Asobi has officially been made its own fully-fledged studio within PlayStation Studios rather than just a team under the JAPAN Studios wing. This announcement isn’t all that surprising, particularly because it was announced just four months ago that JAPAN Studios would be reorganized and restructured around Team Asobi.

The statement made on the blog post came from Nicolas Doucet, the creative and studio director for Team Asboi, which read in part “Following the release of Astro’s Playroom for PlayStation 5, Team Asobi is now spreading its wings and growing bigger! This is a very exciting time for the team, and we are very much looking forward to this next chapter. We wanted to take this chance to thank all of you, the PlayStation fans, for your kind words of support over the years, especially since Astro made its big debut on PlayStation 5 alongside the DualSense wireless controller.”

The announcement also featured a new logo for Team Asboi, which you can see here:

It’s very exciting to see Team Asobi grow even more, as they have been behind two standout titles that are both simultaneously a showcase of new hardware and incredibly fun to play. With PSVR 2 on the horizon, its likely that the next title we’ll see from Team Asobi will see Astro return to VR to show off everything the new hardware can do. After that, who knows! Astro’s Playroom is praised not just for its excellent showcasing of the Dualsense controller but the tight and intense platforming within the game. With this in mind, perhaps Team Asobi is ripe to create the next big 3D platformer for PlayStation.
