Now that handheld PC game players have become commonplace, Tencent Games and Intel teamed up on Tuesday to create the first 3D PC game handheld that does not require glasses.
On Tuesday, Intel and Tencent Games unveiled a new product aimed at rivaling the growing handheld PC gaming market, equipped with 3D functionality without the need for theatre glasses. At the 2024 edition of the Intel New Quality Productivity Technology Ecosystem Conference, the technology super team revealed what is now dubbed the Sunday Dragon 3D One. The handheld features removable handles similar to the Nintendo Switch and appears to merge the concepts of the Nintendo 3DS and Switch into one handheld PC chassis.

According to the translated report from IT Home, the device is currently an experimental product designed to explore the application of 3D technology in gaming scenarios without the use of 3D glasses or other 3D filters. The Tencent Games and Intel partnership utilizes the Intel Ultra 7 258V (formerly referred to as a Lunar Lake processor) and integrates 32 GB LPDDR5x memory. Onboard memory comes at the highest industry standard for handheld PC gaming devices, with a 1 TB high-speed solid-state drive.
The removable side handles allow the Sunday Dragon 3D One to function more like a tablet with two remotes, akin to the Lenovo Legion Go or Nintendo Switch, instead of the all-in-one models popularized by the ROG Ally and Steam Deck options on the market. Intel and Tencent Games put an 11-inch 2.5K resolution screen in-between the removable controllers, and the screen has a surprisingly fast refresh rate of 120Hz.

General Manager of Tencent Games’ New Interactive Product Centre, Wu Dan, said: “There have been many great technological changes in the history of game graphics technology, from 3D rendering to real-time ray tracing, and the pictures are becoming more and more realistic. If two-dimensional images can be converted into three-dimensional stereoscopic presentation, the visual experience will reach a whole new level,” regarding the Sunday Dragon 3D One (loosely translated by Google Translate).
Tencent Games and Intel claim the onboard 3D imagery will feature a real-time image interlacing algorithm and that it can intelligently generate naked-eye 3D visual effects without any auxiliary equipment. A video showcasing how the 3D functionality works has been released, and consumers can find it on Bili Bili.
Seeing as how this device has just been presented, Intel and Tencent Games will provide more information regarding the new innovative device sometime in the future.
