Tennocon 2025: Soulframe Preludes Reveals New Boss, Opens Access For The Weekend

To kick off the main day of Tennocon 2025, Digital Extremes revealed thrilling new footage for Soulframe, its fantasy counterpart to Warframe, and announced access to its pre-alpha Preludes program will be open for the convention weekend.

Players who have already registered on the game’s website have been granted access, and those who register by 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, July 20, will be immediately allowed in and gain access to Soulframe Preludes until the game’s full public launch. Afterward, Preludes will resume its prior waitlist system.

Soulframe‘s creative team took to the Tennocon stage to briefly update players on their progress and the road ahead, as well as demoing a new live gameplay demo. In the latest Fable episode for the game, the player’s Envoy seeks to restore the mighty Omen Beast Bromius, a bear that has been corrupted by the insidious Ode.

The player’s guide on this mission is the Witch Verminia, who made a splashy debut at last year’s Tennocon, and the audience erupted in laughter as she altered the Envoy’s Sparrow into one of her “poppets.” This beloved sidekick also had an unexpected role in the boss fight later—after the player fends through a corrupted forest and an underground maze.

Throughout the demo, Soulframe’s refined gameplay was on full display. A new Magick-based fighting style was demonstrated in a mini-boss fight with the Wazzard of the Wastes, the figure responsible for the forest’s corruption. Multiplayer co-op was also demonstrated briefly, with a second player hopping in to help dispatch enemies and overcome environmental obstacles.

Among the upcoming additions to Soulframe is customized skill progression. Inspired by medieval combat manuals, this stylistic new menu system will allow players to mix and match abilities, enabling focus on either melee or ranged combat, or even more supportive roles. As players specialize and invest in their fighting style, their character will essentially record their own “training manual” as a way of illustrating their skill progression.

Customization is also coming to Envoy aesthetics, as a future update will add a set of eight hairstyle options. More styles and other player character customizations are in the pipeline as well.

Soulframe is still in a pre-alpha position where the team is “not quite comfortable” opening access to the public. However, this weekend’s influx of Envoys will help expand their playtesting experience, and the game continues to look better every time we see it.

CGMagazine is live on the scene from Tennocon 2025, so stay tuned for more coverage of Digital Extremes’ huge fan festival!

The Soulframe Preludes play test program is currently available—by invite only, outside of this weekend—on PC.
