Tennocon 2025: Warframe Reveals Tau In The Old Peace

Later this year, Warframe players will get to explore a long-anticipated piece of the game’s fundamental history in the Winter update, The Old Peace.

Announced today at Tennocon 2025, the next major Quest and Narrative Chapter will finally take players to the Tau system, a key piece of Warframe‘s lore that has not yet been explored. The dramatic live demo shows the player exploring a desolate battlefield and evading the gaze of a massive Sentient in World War One-style trenches, before facing the titan one-on-one.

We learn that the Titan is actually piloted by a Sentient named Adis, who appears to be a friend of the Operator. The demo jumped temporarily back to the present to show the Operator is delving into memories with Loid and the Lotus—then fans in attendance were stunned by the scene that followed, showing the Operator and Adis at the “Tauron Academy” orbiting “Tau Moon ‘Perita.'”

The Operator’s upcoming remaster was revealed in the process, the first overhaul for one of the game’s most important characters since their introduction ten years. This will bring the Operator’s face up to par with the rest of the game’s visuals, and will be joined by the return of wall-running mechanics.

The Old Peace’s debut marks not only the first glimpse at Tau in the space epic’s 12-year history, but the shocking revelation of what appears to be a coalition between Orokin and Sentient—a treaty that needs to be defended from Dax Separatists. A tragic end marked the demo’s conclusion, and players will have to wait for future Devstreams for more context before the narrative chapter’s release.

Outside of the titular main quest, the late 2025 update will also bring a new “Entrati side story” called “The Devil’s Triad,” where the 63rd Warframe, Uriel, will debut. He will feature alongside two new Protoframes: Father Lyon Allard, Protoframe of Harrow, and Marie Leroux, Protoframe of Wisp. The latest additions to the roster will also be romanceable, in an extension of the new system featured in last year’s 1999 update.

However, Digital Extremes has plenty planned to keep Tenno occupied before The Old Peace arrives in late 2025—starting with the arrival of the Valkyr Heirloom Collection on July 21, and the return of the annual “Dog Days” Tactical Alert event on August 6, featuring a new pool noodle weapon for the occasion.

Next, the “Untitled Fall Update 2025” will introduce a new cinematic quest called “The Teacher,” a collaboration between Digital Extremes and Sumo Digital. The quest will provide a long-requested tutorial for modding, a crucial mechanic in Warframe that has notoriously stumped many new players. In the process, beloved enigma Teshin, the playable character’s assumed mentor, will also be properly introduced into the lore. Design Director Pablo Alonso mentioned during the broadcast that he’s had outlines for the quest since 2016.

Arthur Nightingale voice actor Ben Starr called into the stream remotely to help announce that Digital Extremes is partnering with Paizo to produce an official Warframe adventure for Starfinder Second Edition, the sci-fi spin on their beloved tabletop RPG Pathfinder. This standalone book will include stat blocks for four members of The Hex, and Gen Con attendees may get a chance to demo it before its October release.

Lastly, another long-awaited arrival is drawing closer, as Warframe‘s Android version will be entering a closed beta period this fall as well. The game has been available on iOS since February 2024, and will soon be ready and optimized for a trial period.

Stay tuned to CGMagazine for more coverage from Tennocon 2025, including interviews with the creative teams behind both of Digital Extremes’ ongoing titles.

Warframe is available for free now on all major platforms.
