It has been nearly 10 years since the next Elder Scrolls was announced, and today, Bethesda has revealed its title: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
While the gaming industry continues to face unseen turbulence in the wake of countless layoffs and game cancellations (even BioWare and Mass Effect: Universe were abruptly shuttered), Bethesda has come out of the woodwork today to reveal the next title in The Elder Scrolls series. It has been a long time coming (eight years in the chamber), but the next working title for the next adventure in Tamriel is titled: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The very brief teaser trailer can be seen below, courtesy of Bethesda.
In a video presentation celebrating the past 40 years of Bethesda Studios, Todd Howard said, “You know, as we’re here in the 40th anniversary, we think about all of the games we’ve made,” adding, “And you know, every day when I walk by this case [walking by a display case of games], obviously I look at the games and think about them, but more so I think about the teams that made them, and the time and the passion that everybody put into the games.”
Howard continues, “You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls VI. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls VI is actually called.” This is where the video presentation gave the big reveal: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.

A brief video description reads: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” – Yazar, Moth Priest to High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell (4E 206), which means The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel will most likely be returning to Hammerfell, which was previously explored in the previous Elder Scrolls titles: The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls Online and the action-adventure game from 1998, The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard.
With all of the turbulence in the industry (and more layoffs on the way from Microsoft and XBOX), fans can rest assured that The Elder Scrolls IV: Sentinel is still happening.
