The Game Awards 2025 Revives A Classic Star Wars Racing Game

In one of the more surprising announcements of the night, Lucasfilm Games announced a spiritual successor to the beloved Nintendo 64 classic: Star Wars Pod Racing.

Showcased during The Game Awards 2025, Star Wars Galactic Racer harkens back to the days of yore, when fast machines and high-stakes defined racing—before the Empire shut it down. This new game looks to be a combination of several different styles and racing machines and according to the game’s press material, “No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to rise.”

In an action-packed trailer, players were given a glimpse of pilots using Pod Racers, Speeder Bikes, and a wide variety of different land-based ships from Star Wars. Racers were seen taking place across a variety of different planets, including some familiar-looking locales like Hoth and Tatooine. Star Wars: Galactic Racer introduces players to The Galactic League, an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim.

Players will take on the role of Shade, a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge. But standing in Shade’s way is Kestar, a ruthless rival who has his own power-hungry plans for the League. The game will feature a solo Story campaign, where Shade must forge alliances, outpace rivals, and survive long enough to become an elite racing pilot. Or battle for supremacy in competitive multiplayer, braving strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.

“For us, Star Wars has always represented the power of wonder – and racing is one of its most thrilling expressions,” said CEO at Fuse Games, Matt Webster. “With Star Wars: Galactic Racer, we wanted to reinvent what a racing game can be: adventurous, spectacular and exhilarating. We want every race to feel alive with dynamic risk-reward choices, and every victory to feel incredible.”

In the final surprise of the trailer, gamers were given a small glimpse of a character who looks an awful lot like an old-man Sebulba—now sporting a long, white beard.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer launches in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
