The continuation of the on-screen adaptation of The Last of Us finally has a premiere date after leaving fans hanging in March 2023.
Today the HBO network has announced the season two premiere of Sony’s hit adaptation, The Last of Us, premieres in April (exclusively on HBO and Max). This will make it two full years since the season one finale aired on Max. Considering season one of TLOU closely followed the events of the first video game of the same name, it appears the second season will follow the events of The Last of Us: Part II. Like the sequel video game, the second season will take place after a five-year time skip into the future.

Showrunner Craig Mazin has revealed after the season one finale in an interview with GQ U.K., that the second video game is so large, they would need more than one season to cover it entirely. When asked, “Will the next season span the entire course of the second game?” both Neil Druckmann and Mazin stated that it would not be only one season. Mazin specifically said, “You have noted correctly that we will not say how many. But more than one is factually correct.”
In celebration of The Last of Us season two release date announcement, HBO has released a slew of season two posters to commemorate the announcement. The posters can be seen directly below, featuring Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.

The Last of Us season two premiere is scheduled to launch on April 13, 2025. The series adaptation will reveal then if the events of the PlayStation sequel video game will be directly translated to the on-screen adaptation, and fans can tune in to the new season on HBO and Max when it airs.
