On Wednesday, The Pokémon Company International and stop-motion animation studio Aardman revealed they’re working on a “special project” together.
The Pokémon Company International has been hard at work creating exciting developments in the universe of pocket monsters with new mould-breaking shows like Netflix’s Pokémon Concierge and the Detective Pikachu movie (and its sequel) bringing Game Freak’s creatures into the real world.
This Wednesday, the stop-motion animation studio Aardman announced an exciting team up bringing a “special project” to fans in 2027. Aardman is known for their work with stop-motion animation, and with the exploration of the Detective Pikachu style of storytelling, The Pokémon Company has embraced further developments on the beloved IP.
VP of Marketing and Media at The Pokémon Company, Taito Okiura said “This is a dream partnership for Pokémon. Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat,” expressing the excitement behind the new collaboration.
Managing Director of Aardman, Sean Clarke, echoed the excited sentiment, saying “We feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting. Aardman and TPCi share an emphasis on heritage and attention to detail as well as putting our fans and audiences at the heart of what we do, which we know will steer us right as we together create charming, original and new stories for audiences around the world” regarding the team up.
Judging from the announcement and the date the collaboration is set to launch (in 2027), there hasn’t been much detail revealed about the Aardman collaboration outside of what the studio is known for and that Pokémon will be introduced to a new way of storytelling in the collaboration.
