Nintendo Announces The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct Alongside An Exciting Poster

As the days draw closer to the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, fans are getting more eager for new details related to the film. Now Nintendo is poised to deliver the final teaser for the film.

Announced via social media, Nintendo will be hosting a The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct on March 9th, 2026. While no details were provided for the length of the Direct, it will include the final trailer for the movie. However, what has really seemed to excite fans is the (possibly) final poster that has released alongside the announcement, featuring a deep-cut character that has long been in the Nintendo vault.

While Birdo and Mouser were shown briefly during The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Official Trailer 2, many fans were curious if the frog-like King would also be appearing in the movie. As can be seen underneath the titular plumber, the Great King Wart, the primary antagonist of Super Mario Bros. 2, is featured alongside the two sub-bosses.

It certainly lends some credence to the sentiment Keegan-Michael Key (who voices Toad in the movie) shared, that the film will feature “some new folks that are old favourites and some folks that I think are really deep cuts.” A Jakks Pacific Playset has already revealed that the NES peripheral R.O.B. will be present in the film, and there’s still a lingering rumour that the beloved anti-hero Wario will also appear in the film.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to release on April 1st, 2026. Alongside Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor Joy and Jack Black reprising their roles as Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser respectively, the movie will also feature Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
