Twitch Recap 2024: First Look Into This Chaotic Year Of Twitch

Twitch has released their Twitch Recap 2024, an annual end-of-the-year celebration about their unforgettable moments, trends, and many wins shared across the community.

To celebrate the end of the year, Twitch has released the Twitch Recap 2024, marking its fifth consecutive year of honouring the various ways users have engaged with the platform—whether by streaming, watching, chatting, or lurking. From Kai Cenat dominating Twitch this year with his gaming and Just Chatting streams, to CaseOH leading the gaming category with comedies and appearances by numerous celebrities, here is a first look at the Twitch Recap 2024.

With 20 billion hours watched and 9.51 million new streamers throughout the year, the top-streamed categories in 2024 were Grand Theft Auto V (global), Just Chatting (North America), Valorant (APAC), Special Events (EMEA), and Sports (LATAM). In addition to the top categories, the “Chill” tag was the most-used tag on Twitch. ASMR content reached 100.6 million hours watched, the relaxing Stardew Valley grew to 23.6 million hours watched, and the :bratchat: emote was used over three million times, highlighting Charli XCX’s impact as she took the world by storm with her new album, Brat.

One of the most influential streamers on Twitch in 2024 was Kai Cenat. With Kai’s influence, the McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac became the streaming snack of the year. His streams featured numerous celebrities, including Tyla, John Cena, Kevin Hart, and Druski. Kai achieved 713,000 peak viewers during a sleepover stream with Hart and Druski, captured widespread attention with his Elden Ring run, and recently set an all-time subscriber record with 727,000 subs during his Mafiathon 2 Subathon.

Shifting to video games, 2024 proved to be highly impactful. Grand Theft Auto VI won the award for Most Anticipated Game of 2025, while Grand Theft Auto V was the top category globally, with 1.46 billion hours watched. Fallout also had a strong year, being dubbed Twitch’s 2024 Post-Apocalyptic Hellscape of the Year after achieving a peak viewership of 10 million and 38.5 million hours streamed. Meanwhile, Elden Ring dominated Twitch during spring 2024, with highlights including Kai Cenat seeking therapy to get through the game and MissMikkaa accomplishing the extraordinary feat of defeating the final boss using only a dance pad and a DualSense controller after 239 attempts.

Several content creators also stood out this year on Twitch. Among them was the previously mentioned Kai Cenat, who set an all-time subscription record with 727,000 subs during his Mafiathon 2 Subathon. River_gg expanded her community to 6.84 million followers, with 10.9 million hours watched, and was voted Streamer of the Year at the Esports Awards. Banda_Chosuke saw a 134 per cent growth in hours watched in 2024 as a VTuber and GTA V roleplayer. Caseoh_had gained 4.9 million followers in 2024 by excelling in Dress to Impress on Roblox and playing a variety of games, all while delivering laughs to his fanbase.
