Ubisoft Reveals Setting and Cast For Netflix's Asasssin's Creed Series

Ubisoft has announced that the upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed series will take place in Ancient Rome, specifically in the year 64 AD. The detail was shared on Ubisoft’s official X account.

If you’re into Roman history, you probably know that 64 AD was a pivotal turning point for the empire, with the Great Fire of Rome occurring under Emperor Nero. Historical records say that to deflect blame from being accused of causing the fire himself, Nero launched the first major Roman persecution against Christians. Over the next few years, there’d be a failed assassination attempt on Nero’s life, the Olympic Games (where Nero won every contest he entered), and his fall from power in 68 AD, which left Rome on the brink of civil war.

Needless to say, that’s fertile ground for the Assassin’s Creed series to work its brand of historical storytelling, and Nero will undoubtedly play a central role in the series. Of course, the franchise has visited Rome before with the game Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, but that was nearly 1000 years after this time period. While the show will kick off in 64 AD, we don’t quite know how many years it will cover.
