Console gamers can check out another indie darling today as Wildermyth: Console Edition arrives on all current-gen platforms.
Originally released in 2019 as a beta and in full in 2021, Wildermyth is a tactical RPG that’s both character-focused yet procedurally generated. Players follow an unlikely band of heroes from their origins as simple farmers to the fulfillment of their legacy as saviors of the realm, like so many classic campaigns in Dungeons & Dragons.
Beneath the deceptively simple visual style of paper figures on a game board lies a dense RPG that spans generations. Cutscenes unfold in comic book style—a whimsical approach which may inspire a false sense of security or irreverence, so that you’re caught off-guard by one of its procedurally-generated twists.
Each playthrough is unique, with choices drastically changing the course of party members’ abilities and the legends they carve. Heroes will be transformed by their journeys, and if they’re lucky to live long enough, they may retire into the annals of history and legend, possibly joining the pantheon for future playthroughs.
Wildermyth: Console Edition has two exclusive features which may entice new and existing players alike. The Monster Compendium is a bestiary that will offer information on the various monsters and factions encountered, while the new 4-player local cooperative multiplayer allows each player to take command of multiple characters.
This has the potential to drastically change the course of the game, with multiple players getting invested in their personal stories simultaneously, and the random effects of procedural generation bringing chaos all the while. Wildermyth was already great fun with friends spectating, and this new multiplayer mode will surely heighten the experience on game nights.

As if that wasn’t enough, console players will also get an exclusive Off-hand Item Skin Pack DLC, with several monster-themed skins for off-hand items like shields, torches, and daggers. However, the Armors & Skins and Omenroad DLCs will not be available at launch.
Wildermyth: Console Edition is now on sale on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A physical edition is also on the way soon; starting November 9 at select retailers in Canada and the US, the Switch and PlayStation versions will include a copy of the Monster Compendium for reference outside of the game, exclusive to the initial print run.
