Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Drops New Trailer and Confirms May 21 Release Date

New Yoshi Platformer Incoming!

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book ConfirmsRelease Date On Nintendo App, Coming May 21

To kick off Mario’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, Nintendo has revealed the release date for the upcoming title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which is coming in May.

Although Mario Day has just started, Nintendo has taken to the new Nintendo Today! app to reveal the release date and new gameplay for the upcoming Yoshi-starring title, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Since being revealed at the Nintendo Direct in September 2025, Nintendo has kept fans in the dark regarding the latest Yoshi platformer aside from the fact that it will sport a flashy watercolour-storybook art style (continuing to utilize new textures for Yoshi) and feature a 2D playstyle.

A new trailer for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book has also been released by Nintendo, showcasing the many creatures Yoshi can interact with in the environment, and it can be seen below.

Unlike the popular Yoshi’s Island (which launched on the SNES in 1995), Yoshi will be able to interact with some of the creatures that populate stages, and some will even be able to take the role of Baby Mario and ride along with Yoshi. In the shown gameplay, a bubble-spitting creature can be found in the Wildwoods area, and Yoshi can use its bubbles as a platform to get to higher levels. As the title suggests, Yoshi will be diving into the pages of a Mysterious Book (known now as Mr. E for Encyclopedia), and he will interact with Yoshi on the adventure as well.

When you interact with a creature in the stage, Mr. E will ask Yoshi to name the creature, and players will be allowed to either create their own name or allow Mr. E to name the creature. After settling on Glubbit for the bubble spitting creature, it’s shown that more discoveries can be made for each creature on the pages of Mr. E. After making discoveries, players will earn stars, and once enough are earned, players can turn the pages and jump into new levels.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 console on May 21.
