Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer is reportedly being considered for one of the leading roles in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film.
The rumor comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, who shared the scoop in an update with his subscribers on X (formerly Twitter). While you need to be a subscriber to actually see the update, in it Richtman says Schafer is being seriously considered for the role of none other than Princess Zelda. Of course, keep in mind this is only a rumor from an insider, and even if it is true, Schafer is only being “considered” currently.
Ironically, Schafer has been one of the most popular fan-casts for the role of Zelda since the film was announced. Entertainment Tonight even asked the actress about it in 2023.
“I’ve seen another wave of the fan cast and everything, which is just really sweet,” Schafer said. “I’m honored that they even think of me for that.”
While Schafer is best known for her role as Jules Vaughn in HBO’s award-winning series Euphoria, she’s more recently appeared as Tigris in The Hunter Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and Anna in Kinds of Kindness.
This is actually the first piece of casting news we’ve seen on the Zelda movie, and we still know very little about the production overall. Up until this point, we only knew the film was being produced by Venom’s Avi Arad and directed by The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball. And earlier this year, a release date of March 2027 was shared by the Nintendo Today! app.
Alongside the Zelda movie, Nintendo also has the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie in production, which will be titled “Super Mario World.”
The Legend of Zelda film is currently in production, with an expected premiere date of March 26, 2027.
