God of War Ragnarök has finally landed on pc with another stellar port from Jetpack Interactive, joining its 2018 counterpart.
Unlike 2018’s reboot title, which initially exclusively targeted the PlayStation 4, God of War Ragnarök instead launched on both PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, taking full advantage of the added horsepower of the latter, ultimately making for an exciting port for PC players.

With its release on PC via Steam and Epic, God of War Ragnarök completes the duology, bringing with it a truly next-gen version of the game, that outperforms even the PlayStation 5 iteration of the title.
In terms of numbers, God of War Ragnarök, after its initial shader compilation, ran at a stead 150FPS with FSR3 enabled at max settings at 4k, locked to 120fps with v-sync enabled (the native refresh rate of my screen).

Playing Ragnarök at 120 frames is a transformative experience, taking the brutal action to new heights, unfettered by console bottlenecks. One small area where I did notice minor and momentary stutters is during transitional scenes, particularly when loading into a cutscene or new map. However, this was sporadic and only lasted for a brief second from running the game on my WD_Black SN770 M.2 drive.

Outside of an essentially perfect gameplay experience, God of War Ragnarök on PC offers native Dualsense controller support. However, during my initial attempt to get the game to register my control inputs, it failed to detect both my Dualsense Edge controller and my X-input based pad until I disabled Steam’s Steam-input feature by going into the properties of Ragnarök’s install.
God of War Ragnarök, like Ghost of Tsushima before it, has the option to sign in to the PlayStation Network, which allows the game to sync up with your PSN account in order to track trophies. Now, for the vast majority of PC players, this can be wholly ignored, but as someone who is a long-time PlayStation fan, I welcome this feature and hope Sony-published titles continue to offer it as an optional incentive for their future ports.

On the topic of trophies, by default, launching the game through Steam starts God of War Ragnarök in fullscreen mode, which results in the sign-in page for PlayStation not correctly loading. So, suppose you’re like me and actually care about earning trophies that go towards your PlayStation Network account. In that case, I suggest initially loading the game in either borderless fullscreen or windowed mode to give the game time to load the PlayStation sign-in prompt properly.

In theory, God of War Ragnarök should be a no-brainer in terms of what to expect on PC as the previous title in the series received an equally excellent port, but with the state of modern porting jobs, nothing is for certain. Thankfully, Jetpack Interactive has done a phenomenal job in bringing Kratos’s latest exploits to a broader audience.
If you’re someone who doesn’t own a PlayStation console, or maybe you’re like me and have never completed God of War Ragnarök when it initially launched, then its latest release on PC is easily the best way to experience the game.
