The Jackbox Naughty Pack

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

Jackbox has long been a great way for friends to get together and play some games that were sure to make the whole group laugh, rather than a game of Monopoly that leaves friends fighting and game pieces all over the floor. Friends have taken simple prompts and turned them into a lot of fun with a great deal of replayability. Now, they’ve found a way to spice up the game for a new experience with The Jackbox Naughty Pack.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack consists of three games, two of which are Jackbox classics with the naughty level turned up, while the last one is a new invention that I suppose needed a dirtier mind to come up with it. Among the games are Fakin’ It All Night Long, where players are given one question that requires a hand raised if it is true for you, while a single faker is given a different question and has to trick the others into thinking that they answered the same question.

In Dirty Drawful, players are asked to guess what prompt other people received based on their drawing of said prompt. Jackbox’s newest minigame, Let Me Finish, forces players to use their oral prowess to make the best argument for a question that leaves you to circle or draw something on an existing picture and two competitors debate over whose answer makes the most sense.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack’s downfall would have been if it was too much of a departure from what people were used to, but since their whole model is in delivering new game packs, they’ve got this down to a science.”

One of the most basic facts about Jackbox is that the game is only as clean or dirty as the people playing the game. So the least mature of us can make any pack a naughty pack, but what The Jackbox Naughty Pack does for you is create prompts that guide you towards the spicy answers more naturally than the regular version of the game.

In terms of the types of questions and prompts they bring up, there is nothing in there that would be considered too much by anyone willing to play this M-Rated version anyways, but not every question is a one-note sex prompt either. The questions are really there to stimulate your brains into coming up with the answers that justify getting a mature pack.

What’s not lost on The Jackbox Naughty Pack is the company’s well-established sense of humour and the rapid-fire pacing of the game. It doesn’t feel like a different game in any way, shape or form, outside of the subject matter. The Jackbox Naughty Pack’s downfall would have been if it was too much of a departure from what people were used to, but since their whole model is in delivering new game packs, they’ve got this down to a science.

The Jackbox Naughty Pack is available now on Steam and for Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch and retails for $21.69 USD. Is this pack worthy of an addition to your Jackbox arsenal? If you play the game amongst a group of adults who are all ok getting spicy, then absolutely. If you’ve got kids and don’t feel up to explaining certain terms and acts to them, then maybe pass on it. But they’ve given you plenty of warning about that in advance.
