CHERRY XTRFY M6

The M68 Wireless Gaming Mouse from CHERRY XTRFY is an ESports-ready gaming mouse with a unique design and build. From its symmetrical design to its low front-end profile, the M68 Wireless is built to handle any grip or palm positioning. Weighing only 53g, the M68 offers a lightweight, flexible solution for both pro gamers and enthusiasts.

On the note of design, there is a lot to like about the streamlined, minimalist approach. Featuring a symmetrical build, the M68 boasts an ultra-low front end, slightly curved left and right switches, and a responsive scroll wheel—all designed to maximize grip control. Thanks to the unique button design, the mouse is exceptionally comfortable to hold with both a palm and claw grip.

The M68’s lowered button heights feel more comfortable than a traditional gaming mouse. While I can’t say they’ve improved my grip as advertised, it is quite nice to hold in hand. As for the build quality, the M68 feels sturdy and functional. This emphasis on function carries through the overall look and layout of the M68, opting for practicality over aesthetics. The black matte finish of the review unit is serviceable, and the PTFE glides on the bottom provide a solid sliding experience. However, nothing from a design perspective helps it stand out in the crowd.

“The M68 Wireless is built to handle any grip or palm positioning, making it a flexible solution for both pro gamers and enthusiasts.”

While I do enjoy the lower button heights, there is one caveat. To charge the M68 or use it in wired mode with the included 1.8 m CHERRY XTRFY EZcord, the USB Type-C port is located on the right side of the mouse near the rear quarter panel. While it works functionally, it feels awkward to use. Mouse movements feel hindered by the cord attached to the side. It’s not game-breaking, but it doesn’t feel great. Additionally, when not in use, the USB Type-C port is covered by a small rubber plug, which is unfortunately easy to misplace.

Thankfully, the internal components make up for some of the aforementioned design choices. For starters, CHERRY XTRFY has chosen to use Huano Transparent Blue Shell Pink Dot switches for the left and right buttons. While this is my first experience with the transparent version of the Blue Shell Pink Dot switches, I’ve found them to be responsive and consistent, offering a satisfying clicking experience. While they lack some of the feedback response of my ROG Harpe Ace, they still produce solid feedback when engaged.

In rapid click testing, they had no issues keeping up with my frantic clicking. In real-world testing, they responded as expected during gaming. There were no missed inputs, and the main and side buttons performed well. The scroll wheel also offers nice feedback and a solid response. While there are no side inputs, the downpress response is quick and clicky.

As for the sensor, the M68 once again opts for pure functionality. Equipped with a Pixart 3395 sensor, the M68 is rated for up to a 1000 Hz polling rate and can be adjusted to four different presets: 125/250/500/1000. The sensor also has an impressive IPS (inches per second) response, measuring 650, with a maximum acceleration of 50 G. Like the button response tests, the sensor performed well, offering a smooth and consistent experience. This is further enhanced by the inclusion of motion sync, which syncs the polling rate to the sensor readings, creating a seamless, smooth, and accurate mouse response on the display.

The Pixart 3395 has been a solid sensor across several gaming mice this year, and it’s nice to see it included in the M68. Combined with the transparent Blue Shell Pink Dot switches, the Pixart 3395 sensor gives the M68 a more premium feel without the top-tier price. While it lacks some of the flair of other gaming mice, it still offers solid performance without any hassle.

This is further emphasized by the onboard settings. One of my favourite features of the M68 is the lack of required software. The M68’s settings—including sensitivity, polling rate, and debounce time—can all be managed via a switch on the underside of the unit. It’s easy to use and understand. Additionally, lift-off distance and motion sync can be adjusted by pressing and holding combinations of buttons on the mouse. While the downside is that all settings are preset, the upside is that there’s no extra software to install on your PC. This also makes it compatible with both PC and Mac, allowing you to hot-swap between systems if needed.

“Equipped with the Pixart 3395 sensor, the M68 delivers smooth, consistent performance with an impressive polling rate and IPS response.”

As for battery life, the M68 houses a 300 mA battery and is rated for up to 75 hours. Thanks to the absence of active RGB and a single indicator light located in the lower left-side corner of the mouse, achieving this hour range is feasible. In my three weeks of testing, I’ve just now charged the unit for the first time. At its price range, this is a solid hour-per-usage rating. As for charge time, it takes about 2 hours from 0% to reach a full charge.

The M68 Wireless Gaming Mouse from CHERRY XTRFY is a solid addition to their lineup. As the sixth generation of their M series, the M68 benefits from years of refinement and testing. While the design choice for the USB Type-C port feels a bit clunky when plugged in, the M68 otherwise feels great to use. Its lack of flair might be a turn-off for some, but its functional, no-fuss design offers a lot to gamers seeking a high-quality, plug-and-play experience.
