Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

Glorious, a growing name in the gaming peripheral market, has been making a name for themselves by manufacturing high-quality products while pricing them modestly against their competition. Recently, Glorious has come out with their new Glorious D2 wireless mouse, a Bluetooth RGB mouse with their well-known lightweight form factor.

As someone with smaller hands, finding a mouse that not only fits my hand but is comfortable and has the right mix of features is sometimes easier said than done. While I have tested a literal handful of different mice over the years, I find many always seem to compromise in one way or another. Whether it be lacking features like Bluetooth, size being too large to easily take along etc., I have yet to find a mouse that truly satisfies all my needs and desires.

Looking at the Glorious D2, at first glance, it may look like your fairly standard mouse, but there is much more to it. From its subtle but brilliant RGB lighting strips to its lightweight and ergonomic feel to other features many of us don’t think about daily, such as the feel of the scroll wheel, the Glorious D2 wireless mouse boasts a plethora of features that I found enhanced my experience in some way in my time of using it.

First, let’s go over the lightweight build and overall feel of the mouse. Weighing in at only approximately 66 grams, the Glorious D2 is not much heavier than your average golf ball. This allows the mouse to absolutely glide effortlessly across your desk or mouse pad without tiring out your wrist throughout the day. But don’t let the weight fool you, the D2 still maintains a sturdy plastic build that also shows off it’s internals through the use of a mesh-like design on the lower portion of the mouse where you rest your hand and along the bottom. This also allows air to flow through the mouse, which, in turn, can prevent your hand from sweating as much during intense gaming sessions. This is something I certainly appreciate, even in daily use cases.

Using the recently refreshed Glorious Core software, users can tweak settings such as dpi rate up to a blazing fast 26000 DPI for quick movements while gaming, although I have never found I have been able to keep up with such fast movements like that and stick to a much more modest 2000 generally.

The addition of a 1000Hz polling rate and Motion Sync also delivers silky smooth movements and prevents lag in times when you may need it most. This can be an essential feature for an eSports player, where every movement has to be quick but also very accurate and lag-free. Input latency can further be improved by using the included USB cable or 2.4GHz adapter, although battery life is shorter when utilizing the latter.  I get three to four days with the wireless receiver and about a week on Bluetooth, and that’s without shutting it off between uses.

Secondly, with everyday features such as mouse shape and button layout, I found the shape of the Glorious D2 almost perfectly fit my hand and felt comfortable while handling it. The addition of two programmable side buttons was handy for moving between web pages, although users can adapt these buttons to do a wide range of tasks such as key bindings, multimedia control and even creating shortcuts for different software.

The scroll wheel is notched, where most mice have smooth wheels, and it provides just enough resistance to prevent accidental movements. While some users may have their own preferences in this aspect, I found this added to my overall experience and made my day-to-day use easier than relying on multi-finger gestures on the trackpad of my laptop.

Of course, everyone loves being able to have fun with RGB whenever available, and Glorious didn’t skimp out or cut any corners here. On both sides of the D2, Glorious has built-in thin but longer RGB strips that offer a wide range of options, from patterns to colours. However, I do wish Glorious allowed for a little more colour tuning on select patterns, such as what companies like Razer do.

Glorious has designed a wonderful mouse overall that I found fills essentially all my needs while adding some niceties that many users will certainly appreciate. For me, not only does it fit my hand well, but it manages to stow away in my laptop back without me even feeling the added weight from it. This was something I found convenient during times I had to fill my bag with additional tech gear, and every bit of weight counted and could make a difference. The $99.99 price tag is well worth it for what they are delivering with the Glorious D2 wireless mouse.
