The smartwatch should serve as an extension of your smartphone. For me, this is certainly the case, so I’m always on the lookout for something that can do just that—hassle and stress-free. My first introduction to a smartwatch was the Fitbit HR many years ago, and since then, I’ve owned several variations of that model. My introduction to the Pixel Watch came with its first iteration in October 2022, and I’ve been a fan ever since. With the release of the Pixel Watch 4, I was already convinced by the new features, but the addition of the 45 mm sizing made it even more appealing to me.
With each passing year, Google stands true to their promise to keep improving their wearables and find ways to integrate them closer into their ecosystem. With the latest release of the Google Pixel Watch 4, they not only deliver on this promise, but they have somehow exceeded all of my expectations for what this year’s smartwatch could do. Last year, Google introduced the 45mm size to their line of smartwatches, the Pixel Watch 3. As someone who enjoys a larger face on their watch, I was truly delighted to see that the Pixel Watch 4 would also be getting a bigger body. The unboxing experience with this new Google product was quick, easy and clean.

Upon removing the security tape that seals the box, you’re greeted by two smaller boxes—one containing the body of the Pixel Watch 4 and the other holding the straps. I received the 45 mm version of the smartwatch in the Moonstone colourway. This size also comes in Porcelain and Obsidian. If larger smartwatches aren’t for you, Google has also released a 41 mm version that comes in a wider range of colours: Iris, Lemongrass, Obsidian and Porcelain. Inside the box, you can also choose between two wristband sizes—small or large. I opted for the large band, as it fit my wrist more comfortably.

When it comes to comfort, I’ve always appreciated the lightweight design of the Pixel Watch series. For the last couple of months, I’ve been wearing the OnePlus Watch 3, and for reference, this particular watch is the 43mm version. I enjoyed the weight and size of that watch, so when it came to the Pixel Watch 4, I was expecting it to be a bit heavier due to its larger size, but to my surprise, both watches have the same weight, coming in at 37g (1.34oz).
This year’s watch retains its aluminum frame and improved glass front made with Gorilla Glass 5. The display is the best it’s ever been, featuring an LTPO AMOLED screen that peaks at 3,000 nits, with a resolution of 456 x 456 and a 320-pixel density. Out of the box, it comes with the current Wear OS 6 supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chipset, quad-core CPU and Adreno A702 GPU. It also includes 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. Additionally, this year’s Google Pixel Watch 4 comes GSM, HSPA and LTE ready for those looking to add it to a smartphone plan.

One thing Google has been remarkably consistent with is the continued upgrade and expansion of its extensive watch-face collection. I’m the type of person who takes about 45 minutes to an hour to create a character in most video games, so naturally it takes me just as long—if not longer—to set up my watch face’s appearance and overall functionality.
I appreciate being able to choose which features I can interact with directly on the watch face—such as weather, alarms, notifications, step count and more. I try to optimize my watch so that when I look at it, it already displays all the information I regularly need. On top of that, I was impressed by the battery life. On average, I achieved 31 to 40 hours per charge, even while using apps such as Google Maps and Fitbit during long walks.
Almost every iteration of this smartwatch has seen some form of drastic improvement to the way it charges. I have very fond memories of absolutely hating the charger that the Pixel Watch 1 came with. It had a very weak magnet and would often slide off when charging with even the slightest nudge to cable. This year, Google has seemingly resolved any and all charging issues with their smartwatch and not only changed it for the better, but they have made it much more secure.
The new design now has the watch sitting vertically on the charger with a significantly stronger magnet. I really enjoyed this because when I place the watch on the charger, it also acts like a sort of watch stand that looks really good on a dressing table.

For those who preordered early, you were treated to six months of Fitbit Premium free of charge. This is a real perk, and I’ve been making the most of it. One of my favourite features is that Fitbit has partnered with Peloton, offering a solid selection of classes available through the premium trial.
As someone who actively tracks their steps, I’ve really enjoyed being able to monitor not only the obvious—steps taken—but also additional stats like flights of stairs climbed, calories burned, total walking distance (when a workout is active) and heart rate data. My wife and I have been going on daily walks before work, and this feature has been a great way to keep us accountable and motivated to push our limits day after day.
“I can confidently say that picking up this year’s Google Pixel Watch 4 is well worth it.”
Along with Peloton, the Fitbit Premium trial also includes access to other wellness apps within the subscription, such as Aura, Breethe and Calm, to name a few. If you’ve been curious about exploring these health apps and are also in the market for a new smartwatch, this could be the perfect opportunity to test the waters with the Google Pixel Watch 4.
After my review period and having used the watch extensively, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the Google Pixel Watch 4 is one of the best Android smartwatches on the market right now. From its lightweight, durable build to the latest features powered by Wear OS 6, you’re not only getting a top-tier smartwatch but also entering a space where you can challenge yourself and continue your fitness journey with the support of Fitbit.

The inclusion of the six-month trial is a great bonus for anyone curious about the premium experience. The 41 mm version of the Google Pixel Watch 4 retails for $349 USD, while the 45 mm model is priced at $399 USD. You can’t go wrong with either size—the choice ultimately comes down to personal preference, comfort and style.
The price tag is a bit steep, but if it’s within your means, I can confidently say that picking up this year’s Google Pixel Watch 4 is well worth it. It’s lightweight, durable and highly customizable to fit your personality and lifestyle. If you’re in the market for a smartwatch, I highly recommend the Google Pixel Watch 4. Whether you’re new to the Google Pixel ecosystem or a long-time user of Google products, the Pixel Watch 4 truly has something for everyone.
