The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset continues the trend of providing gamers with a beefy battery-powered headset that ensures you’ll always be ready to jump back into the fray at a moment’s notice. Two of the key pillars I look for when reviewing or simply looking for a headset to use are longevity/ease of charging, such as with a cradle, and compatibility across multiple devices.
Included in the box, users will find the headset itself, a USB-C to USB-A dongle for easily switching between Bluetooth connections and use with the included transceiver, a removable microphone, and a standard set of quick-start instructions.

The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset checks all the boxes that I look for in a solid gaming headset. But before getting ahead of myself, let’s talk about the design of the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless itself. At this point, HyperX has a well-established look and feel for its range of peripherals, and the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless is no different. Sporting oval aviator-style cups with metal accents and leather earpads, HyperX’s latest offering feels premium and solid in the hand.
The review unit sent to me is the signature black chassis and red metallic band variant that complements the HyperX logo on the sides of the left and right cups. The HyperX Cloud III S Wireless’s two-tone aesthetic toes the line between gamer and professional.
While the included and removable mic forgoes the use of a foam windscreen, it instead features a pop filter mesh that gives the headset a slicker and cleaner look while also preventing finer materials such as pet hair and dust from easily accumulating on the otherwise foam tip. In terms of IO, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless features a USB-C port for charging, along with the keyed mic input and physical controls spread across both cups, including a mute, volume rocker, levels, and a toggle to switch between the dedicated 2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth modes.

On the topic of Bluetooth, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless’s inclusion of the standard allows it to be free from a tethered experience, making it a decent choice for those wanting to go beyond simply gaming. In terms of compatibility, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless works across PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms when paired over the USB dongle, with additional support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and the Switch in portable mode via the included 3.5mm adapter end of the braided cable.

With support for DTS Spatial Audio, the HyperX Cloud III Wireless S headset offers a robust soundscape for gaming, making it easy to discern directional audio cues in immersive titles that support the feature. This makes it a solid choice for competitive players. As far as general media consumption and music are concerned, although not bad by any means, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset can feel flat, particularly in the bass. Thankfully, through the free HyperX app, users do get some level of control with various profiles that can be tweaked, resulting in more poppy and nuanced-sounding music instead of the stock profile.

Voice reproduction through the mic also sounds solid with adequate noise cancellation that blocks out the sound of my PC and other ambient noise, such as the air conditioner, while still picking up my voice clearly. With the mic being fully detachable, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless can be used when out and about without looking too much like you’re sporting gaming tech, making it a good choice for those looking to get value for their purchase.

One of the best features of the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset is its massive battery, which not only adds a solid feeling (comfortable) bit of weight but gives those who are forgetful (or lazy) an absurdly long-lasting battery rated for upwards of 120 hours on a single charge, making it one the best headsets on the market that don’t require a dock or dedicated base.
Another addition to the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless is its removable cup inserts, which are attached to both the left and right cups of the headset via magnets. Simply use your finger on the indented opening by the IO of each side of the device to gently pop them off for easy cleaning and potential customisation.
With its easy plug-and-play nature, on top of Bluetooth connectivity, premium build quality, and long-lasting battery, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset is a workhorse of a headset and an easy recommendation for those looking for a versatile piece of gaming tech. Even outside of the realm of gaming, the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless headset makes for a decent pair for daily drivers that blur the line between headset and headphones, providing those who want it all a solid choice to consider.
