Lenovo Legion Pro 34WD-10

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Lenovo Legion Pro 34” OLED Curved Gaming Monitor is a 240Hz display packed with features and functionality wrapped in a sleek and well-constructed casing. Boasting next-level immersion with its 21:9 aspect ratio, PureSight OLED panel, and crisp, rich colour profile, the Legion Pro 34” is a beauty to behold. While I have to confess that I am not historically a fan of ultrawide monitors, the Legion Pro has a few features that I’ve not worked with before. Is it enough to change this reviewer’s mind? Let’s jump in and find out.

Out of the box and despite being a 34” display, the Legion Pro is surprisingly easy to handle and assemble. The unit comes in three pieces and clips together with ease, no tools required. Once assembled, the Legion Pro feels sturdy. This can be attributed to both the high-quality build of the components and the well-proportioned, weighted base. When resting on the table, the monitor remains securely in place, even if the table is jolted. The Legion Pro also supports full tilt and pan, providing a significant amount of adjustable movement within its landscape positioning.

Additionally, the monitor offers a sliding height adjuster that easily accommodates users’ needs. All of these settings are adjusted quite effortlessly with no sudden jarring or excessive force required to move the monitor around. Considering its weight and size, I’m pretty impressed with the build quality of Lenovo’s Legion Pro monitor.

Lenovo has also included some fun quality-of-life features with the Legion Pro that I didn’t know I needed, but now I can’t think of why this hasn’t been the standard for the past five years. The first is a headphone hook that tucks into the left side of the display when not in use. It’s a simple yet smart addition. The second is a built-in phone holder located at the base of the monitor, providing a horizontal or vertical stand for your smartphone.

The Legion Pro also features an RGB strip along the bottom bezel, which is controlled via the onboard controls. It provides some nice, functional downlighting illuminating the desk space below it. It’s a small and subtle feature that adds just a little bit extra to the look and design of the Legion Pro.

Boasting an 800R curvature OLED display, the Legion Pro is built first and foremost for gamers. Curvature ratings are a key element to curved monitor design, and not all curves are created equally. While larger R curvature ratings have a softer, less pronounced curve, designed for productivity, smaller ratings, such as the 800R curvature of the Legion Pro, offer a more pronounced curve. This tighter curve rating provides a more immersive, wrap-around experience for the user.

“Colours are vibrant, images are sharp and crisp.”

To further enhance the immersive experience for gamers, Lenovo has incorporated a stunning OLED panel display, offering an incredibly vibrant viewing experience. The certified Display HDR TB400 panel provides a deep, rich colour experience and presents every detail of both games and video. In visual tests, both with video and gameplay, the results were downright gorgeous. Colours are vibrant, images are sharp and crisp. It’s a delight to play titles like Hogwarts Legacy and DOOM: The Dark Ages at a beautiful 21:9 aspect ratio, which showcases these titles’ detailed landscapes.

I was also impressed with the 240Hz refresh rate, ClearMR 13000 certification, NVIDIA G-SYNC, and AMD FreeSync compatibility,  all of which contributed to the incredibly smooth and blur-free visual experience. This was most evident in DOOM: The Dark Ages, which, despite its lightning-fast gameplay, was clear and crisp, an impressive feat for a 34” ultrawide monitor. It’s one of the smoothest ultrawide display experiences I’ve had, and I am thoroughly impressed with the visual fidelity of the Legion Pro.

Adding the aforementioned 800R curvature results in a truly immersive visual experience. Gaming is a real treat on the Legion Pro, and if this were all it had to offer, I would be impressed enough. However, Lenovo didn’t stop with a simply beautiful display. They also packed the Legion Pro with a robust array of features and functionality.

On the features side of the equation, Lenovo has included a robust set of split-screen functionality tools that truly elevate the Legion Pro above its competition. Known as True Split Technology, it’s the first time I’ve worked with this technology, and I must confess, I am quite impressed.

While there are various ways to leverage this feature, in essence, it allows for up to two sources to be displayed simultaneously, with full KVM switching available to the user. This allows for two PC’s or consoles to be connected to the Legion Pro and controlled from a single KVM solution.

Setting it up and running the system is a fairly straightforward affair, but it did take a few minutes to navigate with the onboard controls and menu. Once set up, though, swapping between sources is quick and painless. I was impressed by how well it worked with my Xbox Series S and PC, as both immediately recognized the KVM.

“Boasting an 800R curvature OLED display, the Legion Pro is built first and foremost for gamers.”

The display can also be treated as a multi-monitor setup, with Windows recognizing it as multiple, separate monitors. This can be a game-changer for productivity. Having spreadsheets, email, and Word documents pulled up while editing in Reaper, all on a single monitor, but with Windows 11 treating it as separate monitors, is quite helpful in saving desk space and optimizing workflows.

Picture-in-Picture is also available for those who want to leverage this feature. Like True Split, setting up and leveraging PIP is a simple and straightforward process. While it’s a functional feature, when compared to what True Split has to offer, PIP feels like dated technology and somewhat obsolete. That being said, it is present on the Legion Pro and works as advertised.

While all of what I have mentioned has been impressive, perhaps the most functional element of the Legion Pro is its USB-C one Cable solution. This is the best solution I’ve seen for creating a desktop workstation for powerful gaming and productivity laptops. It’s smart, easy to use, and truly provides an all-in-one solution for gamers and creators who want a home base while also working on the road.

“Lenovo has changed my mind about ultrawide monitors with the introduction of the Legion Pro 34” Curved Gaming Monitor, and that is a feat not easily achieved.”

While the Legion Pro does have the aforementioned KVM solution, it also features an equivalent of a fully stocked USB dock built into the back of the monitor. Featuring 3 USB-A, 1 USB-C 140W/DP1.4, 12 USB-C USB PD 3.0 15W, 1 USB-B, 1 2.5GbE RJ-45, 1 HDMI 2.1 FRL with eARC, 1 HDMI 2.1 FRL, and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, the Legion Pro comes fully equipped to manage a full suite of peripherals and power management. Simply plugging my Omen into the USB-C port turned my laptop into a fully functional workstation.

It’s an innovative design and functioned exceptionally well in testing. Once set up, it simply works, no additional prompts to click or buttons to press. While I had the monitor set up on my test bench for the duration of this review period, I found myself defaulting to my laptop workstation setup thanks to how simple and efficient it is to set it up with the monitor.

The only small feature I would love to see in the next iteration of the Legion Pro is better audio output support. For content creators, having an audio output to studio speakers would be a game-changer for editing footage or audio. While it’s not a lot of extra work to connect the laptop to my studio speakers here in the office, it’s an extra step in an otherwise one-cable solution. It simply seems like a missed opportunity.

Regarding audio, the Legion Pro features two 5-watt speakers built into the back of the panel. While they are functional, Lenovo boasts the Waves Maxx Audio software as a solution to transforming the audio experience; however, those poor 5-watt speakers cannot produce the quality of audio that gamers, creators, and even content consumers require. They will suffice in a pinch, but they cannot replicate the powerful low end or the clear, crisp high end of traditional speakers.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 34” Curved Gaming monitor is a beautiful display. It provides an impressively immersive user experience with gorgeous visuals and fidelity. The addition of what is essentially a built-in docking station as well as some impressive display features and functionality, there is a lot to love about the Legion Pro. Lenovo has changed my mind about Ultrawide monitors with the introduction of the Legion Pro 34” Curved Gaming monitor, and that is a feat not easily achieved.
