Logitech Flip Folio iPad Case Review

Have you ever wished for more versatility from your iPad keyboard case? The folks at Logitech—makers of some of the best third-party iPad keyboards—have taken up the mantle and brought a new level of flexibility to Apple’s tablet. Logitech’s new Flip Folio aims to fill that role, offering a blend of protection, portability and adaptability that stands out in a crowded market. With Apple’s own Magic Keyboard setting a high bar for design and integration, Logitech’s latest accessory arrives with the promise of a fresh approach—one that emphasizes flexibility and long-term convenience.

Upon unboxing everything, the Flip Folio presents a minimalist profile, appearing incredibly simple at first glance. The Logitech Flip Folio wraps the iPad in a durable shell, providing both front and back protection against the inevitable bumps and scratches of daily life—and looks good while doing so. The case is available in several colours—Midnight Black, pale grey, lilac and graphite—giving users a chance to match their device to their personal style, with each offering a welcome splash of colour that feels oddly striking. The case’s material choices also reflect Logitech’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, with at least 37 per cent certified post-consumer recycled plastic and low-carbon aluminum incorporated into the build.

While I appreciate a wider range of colours when shopping for an iPad case, what truly sets the Logitech Flip Folio apart is its detachable Bluetooth keyboard. Unlike some competitors that lock the keyboard in place, Logitech’s design allows users to remove it entirely and position it wherever they like. The concept behind the Flip Folio—designed for content creation on the go—makes a lot of sense, and the detachable keyboard works well in that context. It offers a much more flexible experience, ideal for drawing, editing or watching media.

With the keyboard able to be placed anywhere, you’ll quickly find a setup that suits your style and workflow. This flexibility is a welcome shift, especially for those who want to transition seamlessly between typing, sketching or simply using the iPad as a tablet without added bulk. When not in use, the keyboard snaps magnetically to the back of the case, storing securely and keeping the overall footprint slim.

Despite being light and easy to pack, the full Logitech Flip Folio case is surprisingly spacious, allowing for full-sized keys that ensure a comfortable typing experience, even during longer sessions. A dedicated function row provides quick access to iPadOS shortcuts, including media controls and screen capture, streamlining everyday tasks and reducing the need to reach for the touchscreen. One notable omission is backlighting—a feature some users may miss, especially when working in dim environments. However, this trade-off comes with a significant upside: battery life.

Logitech claims the Flip Folio’s keyboard can last up to two years on a set of replaceable coin cell batteries, assuming moderate daily use. There’s no need to worry about charging cables or losing power at a crucial moment. When the batteries do eventually run out, they can be swapped in seconds, extending the keyboard’s life well beyond that of many rechargeable competitors. The keyboard also features an automatic sleep function, which activates whenever it’s attached to the case, further preserving battery life.

Logitech suggests the Flip Folio’s slim design can make it easier to use on a plane, and I can see that being true—if you’re seated anywhere beyond economy. I tried it on a flight to L.A. and found the tray table simply didn’t offer enough room to use the case or keyboard properly, at least with the 13-inch iPad Pro I was testing it with. I can imagine it would work well on a train or in a roomier plane seat, but your mileage may vary—pun not intended.

Even though I didn’t love using the Logitech Flip Folio on a plane, I appreciated that Logitech included multi-device pairing with the keyboard—something any multi-device user will welcome. With support for up to three Bluetooth devices, users can switch between their iPad, smartphone or even a computer at the press of a button. This is particularly useful for multitaskers who juggle multiple screens or need to respond to messages across platforms without needing to reach for another keyboard—and I’m happy to say the process works very well.

Setting up the Flip Folio is straightforward. The iPad attaches magnetically, and the kickstand allows for a range of viewing angles in both landscape and portrait modes. This flexibility is ideal for everything from video calls to reading and sketching. The case even accommodates side-by-side placement of a smartphone, making it easier to keep an eye on notifications or reference information while working.

In testing, I found the Flip Folio strikes a solid balance between protection and portability. It adds some thickness to the iPad—particularly when the keyboard is stowed—but remains lighter and less bulky than many alternatives. The magnets used throughout the design are strong, keeping the keyboard and iPad securely in place whether you’re typing at a desk or working on the go.

However, the Flip Folio is not a rugged case. While it may offer some protection, it won’t save your iPad from a significant drop, as the case doesn’t fully cover all aspects of the device. It’s a minor issue, but something frequent travellers who rely on their iPad as a constant companion may want to consider.

Typing on the Flip Folio is solid—especially for a mobile keyboard—but, as with anything designed for portability, there are some compromises. While the keys are full-sized, they’re more compact around the edges, with smaller Shift, Return and modifier keys compared to Apple’s Magic Keyboard. The typing feel isn’t as tactile as a mechanical keyboard—or even Logitech’s own MX Keys Mini, but it remains responsive and quiet, making it suitable for both work and casual use. Some users may need time to adjust to the layout, particularly if they’re used to larger or more traditional keyboards.

Looking at the cost, the Logitech Flip Folio is priced at $179.99 for the 13-inch iPad Pro and Air models, and $159.99 for the 11-inch versions. While this places it in the premium segment, the combination of thoughtful design, long battery life, and multi-device support helps justify the investment for users who value versatility and convenience, and love the unique look the Flip Folio provides. It’s also one of the better iPad cases available for those seeking alternatives to Apple’s offerings, especially considering the Magic Keyboard comes in at a staggering $299. In that context, the Flip Folio offers strong value.

I enjoyed my time with the Logitech Flip Folio, even if I encountered a few hiccups along the way. That said, the case succeeds at its core purpose: offering a flexible, convenient keyboard solution that adapts to a variety of workflows. Whether you’re typing emails, sketching with the Apple Pencil or watching videos, the adjustable stand and detachable keyboard make it easy to find the right setup for any task. The ability to quickly remove or stow the keyboard is especially helpful for users who frequently switch between productivity and entertainment.
