Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Logitech G brand has entered the arena with the Logitech G Litra Beam, a line of lights that are unique from what is usually offered. Anyone who knows anything about putting themselves on camera knows that you will look better with a cheap camera under spectacular lighting than you will with an expensive camera with bad lighting. It’s an upgrade that is so much easier and more affordable than making the jump from a webcam to a mirrorless or DSLR camera, and Logitech knows this.

In the box, you get the Logitech G Litra Beam, the arm for the included stand, the stand, and a lengthy USB-C cable. The instructions can be found on the lid of the box. The base has a spot to run the excess cable to keep your setup nice and neat and assembles easily with the arm, thanks to a fastener at the bottom of the base that turns the screw. The arm has a standard 1/4“ screw for mounting the Litra Beam and is adjustable to angle it just right for you.

On the Litra Beam, you have three 1/4“ threads on the back, bottom and side of the light to mount it how you see fit, whether it is to the provided arm, a tripod or any other mount with the appropriate screw. The Logitech G Litra Beam has full onboard controls, including the power button, brightness and colour temperature controls, and a Bluetooth connection button used for wireless connection.

The Logitech G Litra Beam has a USB-C port on the back for power and can be connected to either a power supply or directly to your computer. If connected to your computer, you can control the light directly from Logitech’s G-Hub software (though the software can also control it via Bluetooth), controlling all of the settings available on the light itself.

“The Logitech G Litra Beam has full onboard controls, including the power button, brightness and colour temperature controls, and a Bluetooth connection button used for wireless connection.”

The Litra Beam offers up to 400 Lumens of brightness with a colour temperature range of 2700K to 6500K to achieve your ideal lighting in your setup. The light is wonderfully diffuse, but thanks to the adaptable mounting options of the light, it can also be quite directional if needed. For example, having the Logitech G Litra Beam Mounted horizontally directly in front of you will give you beautiful, even lighting across your whole face, while mounting it vertically off to the side will give you the perfect key light (or fill light with lowered brightness) that doesn’t light up everything else around you and just lights the part of you that you want to be lit.

Control via the Logitech G-Hub software is very simple and intuitive, with visual sliders to give you a better idea of what you are setting up in case you aren’t up to date on your degrees Kelvin. There is very little to control in the app, seeing as the Litra Beam is a simple product. Because of this, I prefer to control the light on-device because it’s already set up and ready to go, and the extra step on my computer is just not necessary in my eyes.

However, If you get the Logitech G Litra Beam LX, you’ll have RGB and Lightsync to control as well. A plugin for an external controller (especially Loupedeck or the Logitech MX Creative Console) would be a convenient addition as well.

The app or a plugin would come in handy, particularly when using more than one Logitech G Litra Beam in your setup because then the app becomes a one-stop shop to light everything up at once. Also, in any setups where the lights may be in more difficult-to-reach places, you’re going to want the convenience of clicking a single button, overreaching the power button on a light that is out of the way.

The Logitech G Litra Beam comes in at $99.99 USD, which is considerably cheaper than the Elgato Key Light at $139.99. While Elgato’s light has a lot more surface area for a more even spread of light, the Logitech G Litra Beam is a bit more flexible in terms of how it is set up and how you can light yourself, making this a fantastic buy for someone who is looking to build up their lighting.
