Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

Ergonomics has come a long way since the original computer mouse was first patented in 1970. What was originally a device (patented by Douglas Engelbart) with two wheels working concurrently to deliver cursor control on a screen quickly evolved into trackballs, and the optical sensors we typically see today in advanced PC mouse solutions.

Razer — and a few other companies — have taken this innovation further and turned the mouse literally on its side for further ergonomic support. The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition mouse is an innovative mouse with all of Razer’s bells and whistles under the hood. The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition provides advanced precision and customizable controls, wireless/wired/Bluetooth adaptability, and a grip that feels like you’re bringing an old trusty sidearm back into battle.

First impressions matter, and the Razer Pro Click V2 presents like the British Royal Family. The device comes with a USB Type A to USB Type C connector cable, a Razer HyperSpeed wireless 2.4 GHz dongle (to avoid latency present with Bluetooth), and the mouse itself.

The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is coated in a sleek black colourway reminiscent of other Razer devices. The interior is smartly designed with dimpling for hand comfort and grip, while the outside has a gloss+matte finish with concave grooves that the index and middle fingers will find tailored to them. Signature Razer RGB underglow is featured on the bottom. While this does make the mouse look like a small UFO, it allows the user to customize the glow to their liking using the Razer Synapse App (more on that later).

The Razer Pro Click V2 is dressed in buttons galore with a total of six. The buttons are smartly placed, allowing the right thumb control over two of the six. After the right, left, and scroll wheel clicks, the remaining button is on top of the mouse. This button (located under the Razer branding on the mouse’s spine) is a new feature Razer calls the ‘AI Prompt Master’.

That’s right. The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition deploys AI functionality under the hood. I could hold the AI Prompt Master button to open a window in the Razer Synapse App—no login needed—to quickly access AI tools anytime. The AI tools present are ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot, and they can be deployed to offer a wide range of functionality.

Interestingly enough, you can even write a full email without a computer keyboard using the AI Prompt Master and voice-to-text integration with AI Prompt Master. All AI functionality is included with the press of this simple button, and users can generate images as soon as an idea of an image develops.

Seeing as how Elden Ring Nightreign just released, I typed “solid Elden Ring build” into AI Prompt Master to give it a whirl. The AI tool detailed the entire build I should play down to the level and weapons my Tarnished should hold to optimize gameplay. Users should proceed with caution, as the conversation with AI continues, the conversation can distort in confusing ways. Razer includes a disclaimer at the bottom: “ChatGPT can make mistakes,” so users should use writing functions with vigilance.

On top of AI functionality, the Razer Synapse App unlocks the hidden potential of the Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition. Here, I was able to change the key binds (or mouse binds) to each mouse button. Nothing is off limits. Users can make “mice-bind” buttons like copy and paste, and even use macro functions in sequence when using Adobe Premiere Pro or Photoshop (Synapse even includes the ability to make profiles for each of these creator apps).

Razer Synapse also allows the user to further customize the Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition. While the Razer Pro Click V2 can be used completely without the Synapse App, after the initial installation, it became apparent that it should be used. Outside of button binding, other functions such as dots-per-inch (commonly referred to as DPI, or in layman’s terms, how fast the cursor goes) can be completely adjusted. I initially thought the stock mouse speed was slow, but adjusting the DPI to 2450 hit the sweet spot.

This is the best feature regarding the Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition. The mouse can be completely modified for the user. It’s similar to walking into a suit shop and being given the red carpet treatment each time. If I’m playing a sweaty FPS title like Counter-Strike and need higher DPI, I can swap profiles. If I need to quickly edit a photo or video, I can swap profiles (you get the picture). The Razer Synapse app allows users to adjust polling rates as well, allowing almost instantaneous transmission from mouse functions to the PC if necessary.

“The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is a near-perfect mouse replacement.”

The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is for users who prefer the “dress optional” demand on a wedding invitation. It always delivers no matter the occasion. Including wirelessly, this mouse can storm through tasks with ease while connected to a wire or not. I initially thought the wire included with the Pro Click V2 was on the short side, until I deployed a 2.4 GHz wireless connection. I have been using the mouse for three straight weeks, and the battery is still green. I haven’t charged it since unboxing, and it still runs. This is with the DPI and polling rates tuned for more efficiency.

The only gripe I had with the Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is breaking it in. It took me a week of hours-long use to stop using the mouse awkwardly. While the shape of the mouse is intended to go with the natural flow of your hand, it feels like re-learning how to ride a bicycle. If there are left-handed users in your household who all use the same PC, you’re also going to have a bad time. The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is only made for right-handed users, leaving lefties out in the cold. Once you relearn, though, it’s off to the races.

The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is a near-perfect mouse replacement. Pro Click V2 offers a slew of functionality that the user may not have even thought of. A specified AI button gives users a method to AI solution without creating a login, which works doubly as an easier-than-normal onboard ramp to AI solutions.

With the Pro Click V2, Razer allows users a way to bind extra mouse buttons to macro creator sequences, and this could be a godsend for those using Premiere Pro; those not using Premiere Pro can use this functionality for a sea of other uses. The Razer Pro Click V2 Vertical Edition is another win for Razer with all the trimmings added, and fans who want a vertical mouse are in the right place.
