The Shure MV7+ Podcast Kit is an all-in-one audio capture solution for content creators. Featuring the MV7+ dynamic microphone and desktop stand, the kit is ready to take on everything from podcast recording to vocal performance. With simultaneous dual-output, auto-level capture, a digital pop filter and denoiser, and an included wind screen, the MV7+ is equipped with a wide range of settings and recording scenarios. Priced at $319.99, though, the question must be asked, “Is there enough here to warrant a microphone upgrade?”
In some regards, the Shure MV7+ carries over design elements from its predecessor that serve it well. The inclusion of the threaded mounting system, for instance, is quite adaptable, and while the included desktop stand works great, the MV7+ easily attaches to the boom arm at my desk.

The included Desktop stand is quite sturdy. With a weighted base and metal construction, it has no issue securing the MV7+ in place and allows for quick and easy placement as needed. It’s a fairly compact design, is easy to assemble, and offers a short arm extension for additional height adjustment.
A refined revision of the Shure MV7X, the MV7+ also offers some welcome updates to the overall design. For starters, while its predecessor was an XLR-only dynamic microphone, this latest iteration offers dual audio capture output via the XLR and USB-C ports located on the bottom of the microphone. There is also an included customizable LED touch panel for mute (can be turned off), allowing for quick muting if needed. Circling back to the dual output, I should clarify. The dual audio capture is simultaneous, allowing for output to two separate recording devices simultaneously.
Setting up these connections is a plug-and-play experience and works with any standard capture software. In testing, I connected the Shure MV7+ to my gaming PC via the included USB-C cable, then connected the dynamic mic to my MacBook Pro via an XLR cable through the Shure MVX2U Digital Audio Interface (be sure to keep an eye out for that review coming soon). Once plugged into each computer, I opened Audacity, routed the recording device to the MV7+ (PC) and the MVX2U(Mac) and started recording.

Everything worked without issue. No additional driver installations required. This opens up a world of options for streamers or even podcasters who host remote guests, allowing one output to route to a capture PC while the other runs to another PC for voice communication through Discord or similar software. It is the definition of a plug-and-play experience, and I am seriously impressed with the results.
As for the audio capture, the Shure MV7+ is excellent and consistent through both outputs. In testing, there was no notable difference in capture when using my MM-100s as reference headphones for both audio files. As they were essentially both running through a digital interface, either directly or via a digital audio interface, the result was the same.
As for the capture quality itself, the Shure MV7+ does an excellent job of faithfully capturing the source audio. As someone with a lower vocal registry, microphones can struggle to capture the lower frequencies in my voice clearly, often forcing me to run a high-pass filter in post. While that feature can be turned on and fine-tuned in the microphone’s settings via the excellent Shure MOTIV Mix software, I didn’t find it necessary. The low frequencies are clearly captured and come through crisp without overwhelming the mix.

As for the mids and highs, they sound well-balanced in the capture and, as such, presented an accurate representation of my voice. The MV7+ also features an auto-level mode that does a great job of adjusting gain levels during recording. It compensated fairly quickly when I moved to and from the microphone, creating a fairly consistent audio level in the capture.
“The Shure MV7+ is a smart update to a solid dynamic microphone series.”
For those who rely on denoisers or pop filters, the Shure MV7+ offers built-in digital versions that can be enabled in the MOTIV Mix software. I found each to work as advertised, offering a decent amount of filtering without tainting the overall capture. Since they both operate in real time, it saves time in post for those doing their own editing.
The Shure MV7+ also features built-in optional reverb for vocal performance. All three modes performed well and added distinct reverb when tested. The MOTIV Mix software, which provides access to all of these settings, is a great, straightforward package that handles not only settings but also recording if you desire. It’s simple to use and offers a clean and user-friendly UI.

The Shure MV7+ is a smart update to a solid dynamic microphone series. With standout capture quality, dual, simultaneous output and the overall quality that comes with the Shure name, there is much to appreciate about this Dynamic microphone. So, to the question presented at the opening of this review, the answer is a resounding yes. The Shure MV7+ is an excellent upgrade for your existing setup and provides professional audio capture.
