The Xiaomi Gaming Monitor G27i is the first gaming monitor for manufacturer Xiaomi. Known for their consistently solid smartphones, Xiaomi has decided to branch out to the world of gaming monitors with the G27i. Equipped with an FHD ISP panel, the G27i offers a 27” display, AMD FreeSync and a solid 165Hz refresh rate. While none of these specs pop out on their own as new or innovative, the fact that all of this comes in an impressively thin package at a competitive price makes it worth taking a deeper look at.
The Xiaomi Gaming Monitor G27i is well-constructed. Featuring a solid metal base and stand, the monitor sits securely without fear of toppling over. A single clip-in slide bracket attaches the monitor to the stand. It’s a quick and clean setup that can be completed in under a minute. At its thinnest (roughly the upper 2/3rds of the monitor), the G27i measures a mere 7.5mm while the lower ⅓ or base of the unit pushes out slightly more to accommodate connections, controls and clip mount.

As for tilt and swivel options, the former is available with a -5° to 15° range. Thanks to the metal construction of the clip mount, tilting the monitor feels solid and smooth. Once adjusted there is little concern of it slipping. There is no swivel option with the monitor, at least with the base stand, which doesn’t offer enough clearance for this type of movement. For those looking to use the G27i without the stand, you’ll be happy to know that VESA 75*75 support is standard with the Xiaomi Gaming monitor.
“The Xiaomi Gaming Monitor G27i is well-constructed, featuring a solid metal base and stand.”
The front side of the monitor presents a respectively thin black bezel around the top and sides with the bottom bezel once again being slightly thicker. It’s a clean, minimalistic aesthetic that serves the G27i well. Circling to the back once again, a single mini joystick manages power and onboard controls for the monitor.
You can access every feature and function of the Xiaomi Gaming Monitor G27i from here. Navigating menus and settings is fairly straightforward, with the former being well laid out and easy to follow and the latter offering fairly solid tooltips and descriptions (not something I’ve seen with most onboard UIs).

Once again, Xiaomi has opted to keep connections streamlined and simple with a single DisplayPort 1.4 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, an audio jack for HDMI audio passthrough to headphones, and a DC jack. Swapping between DisplayPort and HDMI is a simple affair, thanks to the aforementioned joystick. Each port is easy to access and use, with everything working as expected from a plug-and-play experience.
“The G27i offers a 165Hz refresh rate with a 1ms GTG response time for a smooth 1080p gaming experience.”
Shifting now to features, Xiaomi has packed a solid visual experience into the G27i. I’ve long held to the mindset that a 27” monitor is the maximum size for an FHD display, and the G27i reinforces this. The 1920×1080 display looks sharp and bright on the ISP panel, thanks to the inclusion of HDR10. Even at 250 nits, the colours appear vibrant, especially during gaming and video streaming.
As for sharpness tests, the monitor did an exceptional job of presenting text clearly, even at smaller font sizes. Even during viewing angle testing for which the G27i is rated for 178° everything continued to look crisp and clear. This was a theme that emerged throughout all of the initial monitor tests. The G27i does what it says it does and it does it well.

The G27i offers a 165Hz refresh rate with a 1ms GTG response time. In-game testing translates into a buttery smooth 1080p gaming experience. DOOM Eternal, for all its chaotic visuals, looked beautiful during testing. Thanks to the aforementioned HDR10 support, darker tones like those present in Diablo 4 likewise looked clear and sharp during the playthrough. For those sporting an AMD FreeSync-enabled GPU, you’ll be able to take full advantage of FreeSync on the monitor which can be turned on via the onboard menu system.
“At $139.99, the G27i Gaming Monitor is a great entry-level gaming monitor that provides a solid visual experience.”
I was quite impressed at the colour depth in the G27i as well. No matter the application, the colours appeared rich and deep looking incredible on screen. Between refresh rates, HDR10 and the 8-bit colour depth, the monitor offers a solid viewing experience. It’s a solid 1080p gaming monitor.
While many, if not most, of these features are available in other monitors, what helps the G27i stand out is the price point. At $139.99, the G27i Gaming Monitor is a great entry-level gaming monitor that provides a solid visual experience. While there aren’t any features that push it ahead of other monitors of similar size and specs, for Xiaomi’s first attempt, the monitor hits the sweet spot between features and price point. While it isn’t exploring new ground, it’s a solid and safe first monitor from the manufacturer.

The Xiaomi G27i Gaming Monitor is a sensible gaming monitor that offers everything a gamer needs in a 1080p display at a budget-friendly price point. While it doesn’t break new ground, the G27i does offer a monitor that is both well built and offers some solid specs that help it keep up with other monitors in its weight class. If you’re in the market for a cost-effective gaming monitor, the G27i is worth considering.
