Disney Shuts Down LucasArts

Disney Shuts Down LucasArts - 2013-04-03 18:45:35

After their $4.05 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm and LucasArts last year, Disney announces today they have pulled the plug on LucasArts.

In a statement to Game Informer, Disney wanted to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, after reviewing their current position within the games market. This was to lessen the company’s risk, while simultaneously, broadening an already-successful portfolio of Star Wars games. Because of the shift, Disney had to layoff employees within the LucasArts division.

Despite its unfortunate end, LucasArts will be remembered for not only Star Wars, but also setting a standard for ‘80s and ‘90s adventure games with titles such as Maniac Mansion, The Secret of the Monkey Island, Grim Fandago and Day of the Tentacle.
