June is here, meaning Father’s Day and the end of the school year—a time when we celebrate the dads and grads in our lives.
Luckily for gift-givers, these two groups have many similar interests, from tech to gaming, and all kinds of geekier things in between. Whether you’re celebrating an elementary, secondary, or postsecondary graduate, a father figure in your life, or just the fact that they survived another school year, CGMagazine is here to offer our experienced suggestions with our annual Father’s Day and graduation gift guide.
Beats Pill Wireless Speaker

Price: $199.99 CAD (available at Staples Canada for $149.99 CAD until June 26, 2025)
Dads and grads have a few things in common, and one of the biggest is a love for cranking tunes. Wherever they’re at—a campfire, the park, or just hanging out in the yard—the Beats Pill Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker can easily go with them and fill their activities with sound.
This sleek, pill-shaped speaker has a powerful sound well beyond its unassuming size. Its one-of-a-kind subwoofer packs more bass than you might expect from a wireless speaker, yet avoids distortion. Portable speakers have never sounded this good, and anyone on your Father’s Day or school year’s end shopping list is sure to enjoy their favourite tunes pumping from it.
LEGO Star Wars Grogu with Hover Pram

Price: $129.99 CAD
I’ve long been a proponent for getting either LEGO or Star Wars-themed gifts for Father’s Day, or any other occasion. Luckily, this year there’s a perfect hybrid of the two: LEGO Star Wars’ adorable Grogu with Hover Pram set.
Geeky dads and Master Builder grads alike will have a blast building this unique replica of “Baby Yoda” himself. With about 11 bags of parts, Grogu takes a decent amount of time to build, and the rounded design of his pram is a uniquely fun change of pace for builders. Despite the seeming complexity, it’s a great set for kids to help their dad or other father figures out. Plus, when you’re done, it makes a terrific display piece next to other LEGO sets or Star Wars collections.
- GROGU “BABY YODA” TOY – Build a cute Star Wars: The Mandalorian display featuring Grogu in his hover pram
- PLAYFUL DETAILS – This Grogu buildable figure has dial-operated arms, a posable head and ears, and can be displayed in or out of the hover pram
Nintendo Switch 2

Price: Starts at $629.99 CAD

Now, their latest system, the Nintendo Switch 2, has made its long-awaited debut right before Father’s Day and the end of the school year—perfect timing for a gift the whole family can enjoy.
The Switch 2 is a bigger, better version of the Nintendo Switch, one of the best-selling game consoles of all time and host to a sheerly tremendous library of games. This time around, the hardware is much closer upon the heels of the company’s more powerful competitors, while still retaining the hybrid design philosophy that made the original system so successful. Nintendo is situated to go toe-to-toe with PlayStation 5 and Steam Deck alike.
Dads will appreciate the library of games, old and new; grads will appreciate the sleek design and portability; but the whole family can rally around and enjoy the likes of Mario Kart World, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Nintendo Switch Sports.
(Or, if they’ve already picked up one, consider the excellent, updated Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch 2.)

Sonic The Hedgehog by JAKKS

Sonic the Hedgehog has been around for over thirty years now, so we’ve reached the point where kids who once grew up enjoying his games, shows, and comics now have kids of their own who are old enough to like Sonic themselves. That’s where JAKKS’ line of toys from Sega’s flagship mascot are a great cross-generational gift for dads or grads of certain ages.
Playtime gets a super upgrade with 5″ action figures from Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Wave 3 of this movie merchandise includes Sonic himself, Super Shadow, Knuckles, and Dr. Gerald Robotnik—each with 22 points of articulation and plenty of character.
Or, for the more collector-minded, the 6″ Shadow Collector Figure is the latest in JAKKS’ line of customizable, display-worthy figures. Not only does the angsty antihero come with a display base and some posing options, he also has his Doom Wings from Sonic x Shadow Generations for maximum coolness. He’s a little less customizable than previous Collectors Edition figures, but still makes a stylish addition to a young fan’s bookshelf… or dad’s game room..
(Or, if a young Sonic fan in your life is hitting the road this summer, send them off in comfort with the 3-piece licensed travel set from Franco.)
Unstable Games

Price: $28 CAD (Unstable Unicorns: Diamond Edition), $14 CAD (Garden Variety)
As diverse as the board game market has become over the last 15 years, it can still be tricky to find the right analog game experience for the whole family. Luckily Unstable Games’ quirky, bright titles like Unstable Unicorns make a great way for dads who enjoy tabletop gaming to share their hobby with the younger generation.
Unstable Unicorns: Diamond Edition is an updated version of the core game, featuring a sparkly d4 die, four holographic collector cards of special Diamond Unicorns, and a foil-detailed box. The game itself has players racing to be the first with 7 Unicorn cards in-play (or ” in their Stable”), using other cards to gain an advantage or complicate things for their opponents. It’s suitable for ages 8 and up, with a well-balanced sense of humour that should have parents and kids alike laughing as they betray one another in pursuit of a unicorn army.
Or, for slightly younger players, Garden Variety is a little more traditional card game experience. There’s a bit of a rock-paper-scissors element to the game, and just a smidge of comparative math, as players try to collect Critter and Wildflower cards. It’s a fun intro to card games, and could very well be the foundation of a long-running family game night tradition.
