Dyson OnTrac Headphones

Dyson Ontrac Headphones Review

Score: 8/10

The OnTrac is built with premium materials; you can feel it when you pick it up, especially when you slide it on. The feel of aluminum, leather and soft-touch plastics adds to the overall premium experience the OnTrac offers. These are headphones you want to know, and they are built for the buyer who wants technology that lasts. Available in four colours (CNC Copper, CNC Aluminium, Ceramic Cinnabar, CNC Black Nickel) and a range of interchangeable ear cup colours, the OnTrac are made to be customized and should be easy to match your current style, even if you want to make a bold statement with all the options on offer.

For a company known for vacuums, Dyson has truly excelled in noise cancellation with the OnTrac headphones. The ANC technology effectively creates a cocoon of silence, adeptly muffling the low rumble of airplane engines and the constant hum of office chatter. Multiple ANC modes cater to different environments, offering everything from full isolation to an adaptive setting that adjusts based on your surroundings. Dyson is claiming 40 dB of noise reduction, and in testing, that checks out. I was able to use these while in our printer room and barely heard the cutter or the binder, something not many headphones can boast.

With the main features covered, it’s time to discuss how the Dyson OnTrac actually perform as headphones—and I must admit, I’m impressed. The soundstage is impressively wide, creating an immersive listening environment that brings your favourite tracks to life. The bass response is punchy and controlled, adding depth without overwhelming the mix. The mids are clear and forward, allowing vocals and lead instruments to shine with clarity and depth.

With the Dyson OnTrac Headphones, the company has delivered a top-tier headphone that stands out in a crowded market, though it comes with a premium price.

Sonos Ace Headphones

Sonos Ace Headphones Review

Score: 8/10

With this being a Sonos product, the build quality is top-notch, with a mix of premium plastics and stainless steel components. At 312 grams (0.69 lbs), the Sonos Ace strikes a nice balance between feeling substantial without becoming cumbersome during long listening sessions. They’re noticeably lighter than the AirPods Max, which I appreciate during extended wear.

I was using the Sonos Ace for travel, so active noise cancellation (ANC), which worked well, was a must, especially considering the price.  Thankfully, Sonos delivered on this front, managing to almost completely block out the usual travel noises we all know and hate when on a plane or in an airport. Using an array of eight microphones, the Sonos Ace does an admirable job of blocking out low-frequency rumble and a good chunk of mid-range noise. It’s not quite at the level of industry leaders such as Sony or Bose, but it’s more than capable of creating a quiet listening environment in most situations (like a plane).

While the Sonos Ace is packed with features, it’s good to see that battery life hasn’t suffered as a result. Sonos claims up to 30 hours of playback with ANC enabled. In my tests, I consistently got around 27-29 hours, which is in line with other premium headphones in this class and right in line with the advertised duration.

With future updates and refinements, the Sonos Ace has the potential to elevate itself to a top-tier position in the headphone industry.

Sennheiser Accentum Plus Wireless Headphones

Sennheiser Accentum Plus Wireless Headphones Review

Score: 9/10

Similar to the Momentum 4 wireless headphone design, the Accentum Plus offers a balanced mix of comfort and function. Featuring soft, plush earcups, the Accentum Plus sits firmly in place over your ears. While this does help create some impressive passive noise cancellation they can feel a little tighter than most wireless headphones, initially. However, even after longer testing sessions, they never felt uncomfortable or applied too much pressure around the ears.

More impressive still is the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). The Accentum Plus features an adaptive Hybrid ANC system that actively adjusts the power of the ANC based on the environment. This can help prolong battery life by dynamically adjusting the power of the ANC based on how quiet it is in the environment. In testing, the system worked exceptionally well, quickly adjusting to the various environments it was exposed to.

The Sennheiser Accentum Plus provides some of the best active noise cancelling on the market, even when compared to some higher-priced ANC-enabled headphones I’ve tested. This becomes more impressive when considering the $229.99 USD price point. While there are a few wireless headphones in this range with ANC, Sennheiser’s adaptive hybrid system helps set it apart from others.

The Accentum Plus Wireless headphones from Sennheiser offer some of the best audio and ANC on the market at its competitive price point.

Edifier WH950NB Wireless Headphones

Edifier Wh950Nb Wireless Headphones Review

Score: 9/10

I have been wearing the Edifier WH950NB wireless headphones for a solid four hours. The only reason I have taken them off is to prevent discomfort on the long flight, but I have never actually felt like I needed to. The headset does apply a bit of pressure when first worn, but you get used to it quickly, and it blocks out sound well. The headband may as well not even be there; that is how unnoticeable it is when you wear it, but it does show fingerprints very prominently. I could do without that, but I’m pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the Edifier WH950NB wireless headphones are overall.

Even when set to low noise reduction, much of the world goes quiet, including background hum and airplane engines. At the same time, I am able to sense when someone is around me or can hear enough that I am aware that someone might be trying to get my attention. Full noise cancellation cuts the world out completely, and I found myself sitting with the Edifier WH950NB wireless headphones on but nothing playing, just for the peace and quiet.

The Edifier WH950NB wireless headphones support Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio wireless with LDAC certification. That means you’re still met with the same great sound whether you’re wired or wireless. You can change this to a 96kHz sampling rate, 48kHz/44.1kHz or disable LDAC altogether. I found the Edifier WH950NB to sit with a bit of a lower sound, picking up bassy sounds a bit more than other devices.

The Edifier WH950NB wireless headphones pack a lot of quality into a lightweight, comfortable package. The ANC alone is worth its weight in gold.

Audeze MM-100 Headphones

Audeze Mm-100 Headphones Review

Score: 9.5/10

As with the Maxwell Wireless, the new MM-100 is quality-built. Featuring an over-ear, open-back design, the MM-100 is quite light, weighing around 385g. The frame and body of the headphones are comprised of a magnesium/aluminum alloy which feels quite sturdy and rugged. Everything from the headvvvvband, earcup mounts and outer grill plate covers are made up of the alloy making the MM-100’s impressively durable.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the MM-100, though, is the audio drivers. Sporting 90-mm planar magnetic transducers, the MM-100 uses the same Fluxor magnet array as the Maxwell Wireless. As noted with the Maxwell Wireless, what makes the Fluxor magnet array unique is the material it is constructed from. This allows for larger drivers that are both lighter in weight and stronger magnetically. Stronger magnetic fields translate to more control over the diaphragm, giving the headphones a more true-to-source audio experience. In essence, the MM-100 does an incredible job producing an audio profile that simulates the mix the way the artist intended.

One of the things I’ve appreciated most while testing the MM-100 is how much more aware of the mix I am when listening. The MM-100 does an excellent job presenting the mix as it was intended without adding extras to the audio profile. Between editing podcasts, video content, and even going back to listen to singles and albums I’ve heard 100 times, I’ve found myself hearing things I simply hadn’t heard before. While I’ve tested other studio headphones, the MM-100 offers a level of clarity and trueness to the audio I haven’t heard in headphones in this price range.

The Audeze MM-100 is the best in class reference headphones I’ve tested to date and one I would recommend to any audio enthusiast or professional alike.
