Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 Earbuds Review

I have tried my fair share of wireless earbuds over the years, but few sound as good as the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4. These earbuds feel like the natural progression of what Sennheiser brought to the table with their last offering, and yet I cannot say enough about how good they sound and feel. From the moment you take them out of the box to the moment you set them up and give them a listen, you are hit with a solid reminder of why Sennheiser is at the top of the audio landscape.

I will admit it: I was skeptical of the look Sennheiser designed for the Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds when I saw them at CES 2024, but they have grown on me. The Momentum True Wireless 4 boasts a striking yet understated aesthetic with a metallic finish that exudes a sense of premium quality, all packed in a case that feels great and looks unique in a sea of plastic.

The earbuds themselves are ergonomically designed to fit snugly and comfortably in your ears, ensuring a secure and stable fit during even the most intense workouts or active lifestyles. Much like any high-end earbuds, Sennheiser has thoughtfully included a range of ear tips and fin sizes, allowing you to customize the fit to your unique ear shape for optimal comfort and noise isolation.

But the true beauty of these earbuds lies in their attention to detail. The touch-sensitive controls on each earbud are responsive and intuitive, allowing you to effortlessly control your music, adjust the volume, and even summon your virtual assistant with just a few taps. As I touched on above, the charging case, too, is a work of art and unlike any other earbud case, you can find in headphones like this, with a fabric-wrapped exterior that not only looks stylish but also provides a secure grip, preventing accidental drops.

While the look and design of the Momentum True Wireless 4 is fantastic, it is the sound that is the real star of the show. Powered by Sennheiser’s proprietary TrueResponse transducer system, these earbuds deliver an exceptionally accurate and immersive listening experience that will leave you in awe.  The sound signature is meticulously tuned to strike the perfect balance between rich, punchy bass, crystal-clear mids, and sparkling highs, ensuring that every nuance and detail of your favourite tracks is faithfully reproduced.

I know there are many who love a rich, bass-filled sound, often seen on Beats by Dre headphones, but when headphones and earbuds are tuned like that, you will often lose much of the depth and richness of the audio. This is not a problem if you want your music to push the levels as much as possible, giving that loud, impactful sound, but that has its limitations and is not great for all music styles. Sennheiser is much more neutral in its sound, letting you adjust as you see fit, but it also lets the music come through as the recording intended, something that can sound truly fantastic when done right.

This is fantastic for anyone trying to listen to an announcement on transit or even just running and wanting to avoid any major hazards that might sneak up on you.

I am used to earbuds that have tradeoffs for their great audio and having an incredibly sub-par battery; thankfully, that was not the case with the Momentum True Wireless 4. With up to 7.5 hours of continuous playback on a single charge and an additional 30 hours provided by the charging case, you can enjoy your music all day long without worrying about running out of power. And when you do need to recharge, the Momentum True Wireless 4 supports fast charging, ensuring you never need to worry about being tethered to a wall when you need to top everything up.

But battery life isn’t the only area where these earbuds excel. They also boast cutting-edge Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity with LE Audio support, ensuring a rock-solid, low-latency connection with your devices.  Whether you’re streaming music, watching videos, or taking calls, you can rest assured that your audio will remain seamless and uninterrupted.

The Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds have everything you would hope for from earbuds in 2024, and thankfully, they are easy to adjust these features with their app. Sennheiser’s Smart Control app allows you to fine-tune the sound to your personal preferences, with a five-band equalizer and a range of presets to choose from.  Much like last year’s offering, you can even create custom “Sound Zones” that automatically adjust the audio settings based on your location, ensuring that you always have the perfect sound profile for your environment.

But the customization doesn’t stop there. The app also includes a ‘Sound Personalisation’ feature that creates a custom audio profile tailored to your unique hearing characteristics, ensuring that you experience every nuance and detail of your music exactly as the artist intended. It is hard to know how much of an impact these features have on the overall listening experience, but I was impressed with how intuitive everything was and how it all worked together to make for a fantastic listening experience.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 are a fantastic pair of headphones, and if it were not for the price, they would be a total slam dunk. At $299 USD, these are firmly in the premium audio space, out of reach for some who just want to listen to audio on their way to work. While I firmly believe that these earbuds deliver for the money spent, they may not be for everyone, with options from OnePlus, Google, or even Huawei being a bit more affordable, even if you have to sacrifice audio quality in the process.

For people who don’t want to sacrifice audio quality for a deal, the Momentum True Wireless 4 is sure to exceed your expectations. With their uncompromising attention to detail and unwavering commitment to quality, Sennheiser has once again solidified its position as a leader in the audio industry, setting a new standard for what true wireless earbuds can be. While there are cheaper options available, few come close to what Sennheiser brings to the table.
