28 Years Later: The Bone Temple's First Trailer Exposes Survivor Bloodlust & Ralph Fiennes Returns

Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for the upcoming zombie-filled sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and it confirms that survivors aren’t innocent anymore.

The next instalment in the zombie survival horror franchise has finally made its debut with a bloody first trailer. The events of 28 Years Later have left fans on quite a cliffhanger, with Spike (Alfie Williams) finally deciding to leave his family and the safe village provided by them to explore the world, only to run into the sociopathic Jimmy (Jack O’Connell) and his gang of bad actors.

On the other hand, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) came to terms with death directly and offered a fitting skull tribute to The Bone Temple, setting the stage for a bloody sequel. Fans won’t have to wait any longer for more information, as Sony Pictures has released a first look trailer for The Bone Temple, and it can be seen below.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was filmed back-to-back with the previous film, and Nia De Costa took over directing duties for The Bone Temple. The Bone Temple directly follows the events of Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, and it will explore more of Spike’s journey through the zombie-laden world. At an Edinburgh International Film Festival event last month, De Costa said (picked up by The Hollywood Reporter), “Making the 28 Years Later sequel was one of the best filmmaking experiences I’ve had,” adding that her main contribution to the film was adding more infected to the film.

It appears the infected may take a back seat for the sequel still, considering the film’s focus on the main cast from the first ‘Years Later‘. The outspoken director De Costa spoke to Rolling Stone this week and said, “What’s cool about The Bone Temple is we have the Jimmies and their world, and we have Kelson and his world,” adding, “Spike moves between the two, so it was really fun to be able to have a different style of filming for each character.” The Bone Temple will explore the characters introduced in the predecessor film, including Sampson (Chi Lewis-Parry), the hulking infected from the previous film.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will land in theatres on January 16, 2026.
