AMD Announces Threadripper, Ryzen 3 Release Date and Price 2

Great news for any PC users looking for an upgrade, AMD has just announced details on its new Ryzen Threadripper series of CPUs.

The new CPUs are releasing with high-end desktop users in mind. With the 16-core, 32-thread model and the new 12-core, 24-thread model. Both models will be unlocked, use the new Socket TR4, have quad channel DDR4, and have 64 lanes of PCI Express.

Base clock on the 16-core model, the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, is 3.4 GHz with a precision boost to 4.0 GHz. On the flipside, the 12-core model, Ryzen Threadripper 1920X, has a base clock of 3.5 GHz with a precision boost to 4.0GHz. These clock speeds are perfect for any user who demands power out of their CPUs.

Both models of the Ryzen Threadripper were featured in a product update video that AMD released today. The video features AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su as she walks the viewer through the new CPUs. You can watch that video below.

Also featured in the video are details on the new Ryzen 3 family of processors. The new processors are both 4 core, 4 thread CPUs but they differ in their clock speeds. The Ryzen 3 1200 base clock is 3.1 GHz with a boost up to 3.4 GHz. Meanwhile, the Ryzen 3 1300X has a base clock of 3.5 GHz and a boost up to 3.7GHz. Also, we looked at the higher end of the Ryzen line, the Ryzen 7 1800X, and you can read our opinion on it here. No matter what CPU you choose from the Ryzen line, AMD seems to have really stepped up its game.

These new Ryzen 3 CPUs will be available on shelves worldwide, July 27.

The video also showed off a benchmark test between the AMD Ryzen Threadripper series and the Intel 7900X model CPU. Both of the new Threadripper CPUs scored higher than the Intel model in Cinebench r15.
