Apple TV+ Announces Its Upcoming Slate with ‘The Shrink Next Door’ 2

Apple TV+ has released a sizzle reel, which previews its upcoming slate of film and television productions from streaming service.

This includes Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner CODA, new seasons of See, The Morning Show, and Ted Lasso with new series announcements, such as The Shrink Next Door, which reunites Anchorman stars Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell.

The new comedy miniseries, directed by Michael Showalter of The Big Sick and the upcoming The Eyes of Tammy Faye, not only stars Ferrell and Rudd, but Kathryn Hahn will be playing a supporting character, fresh off her tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with WandaVision. The series is based on the 2019 podcast of the same name, in which the psychiatrist (played by Rudd) takes over his patient’s (Ferrell) life by moving into his house and taking over his family business.

The premise looks very much like a reverse What About Bob? If you’ve seen the Frank Oz-directed cult classic starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus, it’s the patient who follows his psychiatrist on vacation and essentially takes over his life. This prompts the psychiatrist to go crazy, with the patient allegedly being cured by stalking his family to extreme ends. No release date has been given for The Shrink Next Door, but we can expect it to come out sometime later this year, with every other project announced in Apple TV+’s sizzle reel coming “soon.” Maybe in time for awards season, who knows…
