Big Meta Outage Hits Facebook, Instagram, Threads & Even Oculus

Today, a big Meta outage has crashed into the internet, taking down services for Facebook, Instagram, Threads and even Oculus and Whatsapp are affected.

Most of the social media platforms under the Meta umbrella have been affected today, as a big Meta outage has hit the internet. Reports have been circling the internet this morning, with the timeframe of service interruption seeming to land around 10:00 a.m. EST. Facebook has been giving users the boot out of their accounts, Threads don’t load, and Instagram feeds just don’t refresh. Even the Oculus storefront has been giving users issues, and ironically enough, “Facebook & IG” and “WhatsApp” are trending over on the Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) platform, a point he made clear to mention by making a most to inform on the situation. That post can be seen below.

The Head of Communications over at Meta, Andy Stone has also taken to the X platform to inform users that they are aware of the situation, he writes “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” All of the Meta services have been experiencing thousands of outages reported over on DownDetector, including the Oculus Quest platforms, where problems have numbered ~ 400.

People have been making light of the Meta outages on the X platform, with users posting memes about how others are rushing back to the Musk-owned social platform. User SigmaRuler_ pointed out the irony of Meta users going to X to check if there’s a Meta outage with “Facebook and Instagram users flocking to X to check if these websites are down…” with a video of a crowd rushing for reference.

While the Meta outages continue, fans can likely head over to the official Andy Stone X account (Communications for Meta) for updates on whether service is restored or not. It looks like service has been restored for some users as of 11:45am EST.
