For fans of Blade Runner, Prime Video took to SDCC Hall H to unveil the first trailer for Blade Runner 2099, giving fans a November release date to look forward to.
San Diego Comic-Con is the place for all things nerdy, science fiction, and fandom to be announced, and Prime Video took this time to give Blade Runner fans a look at their latest vision of the future. Taking to the legendary Hall H, in front of over 6,500 people, Blade Runner 2099 stars Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, alongside showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, took the stage to give fans the first look at the upcoming series.
Set fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049, the series follows Cora (Hunter Schafer), a fugitive who takes on the role of a Blade Runner in a last-ditch effort to finally stop running. Now partnered with Olwen (Michelle Yeoh), a replicant mere days from dying, they find a secret at the core of society that could be the very foundation of everything society has built.
The trailer gives the audience a dark, gritty vision of the future that feels like the natural evolution of the world first brought to life by Ridly Scott back in 1982. Hunter Schafer brings an energy to the proceedings, delivering a performance that feels pulled from the streets of 2099 LA. The trailer paints a bleak picture for the future, but one that feels firmly planted in an 80’s that never ended. Raw metal, tube monitors, and a harsh reality filled with neon, rain and despair- it is a world that any fan of the franchise would be sure to be excited to visit.
Silka Luisa serves as showrunner and executive producer along with Ridley Scott, Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, Alcon’s President of Television Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker and Clayton Krueger from Scott Free Productions, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Michael Green, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra, and Isa Dick Hackett. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun) is an executive producer and directed the first two episodes of the limited series Blade Runner 2099.
Announced during the panel, Blade Runner 2099 is slated to hit Prime Video this November 25th, 2026. From the looks of things, this is a series science fiction fans will want to check out. The visual style, setting, and tone feel spot on, and while we will need to wait till this fall to experience it firsthand, let’s just say I am very interested to see where the series goes.
