Blizzard ditching 'always online' for Diablo III on consoles 1

According to Blizzard, the console release of Diablo III will be ditching the much-maligned mandatory always online requirement that was used in the PC version.

“You can have four people on the same screen – no split-screen, we just zoom the camera out. Or if you’re offline,” said Production Director John Hight during an interview with Geoff Keighley on GameTrailers.

Blizzard announced a PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 release for Diablo III during Sony’s PS4 reveal event last week, after years of rumour that a console version was in-development. The game will release on PlayStation platforms with all content included in the PC version up to the 1.07 update, which means PvP and crafted items will be available, but won’t be available for cross play between the PC and console. Updates will continue to be released for consoles though.

Diablo III will be playable on consoles at PAX East next month. The game originally released in May 2012, you can read our review here.
