Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Heading to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the West

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be launching in the West.

Capcom announced today that the new remastered version of their 2013 action RPG, Dragon’s Dogma, will be headed to the west later this year. This new version of the game will release on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, featuring enhanced visuals for the more powerful consoles. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen contains the original Dragon’s Dogma in its entirety along with all the additional content from its expansion, Dark Arisen.

Originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Dragon’s Dogma is a hack-and-slash open-world fantasy RPG. Players could create their own customizable character from the ground up, choosing from a variety of classes. Unique to Dragon’s Dogma is its “pawn” system. Aside from their own characters, players could create an ally companion who could fight alongside them. This character could then be hired by other players, gaining experience and equipment as they travel with others. At the same time, players could hire other player-made pawns to help them in battle. An expansion to Dragon’s Dogma was later released, featuring an area where players could defeat enemies for new equipment added to the game.

In Japan, a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma was created in the form of a free-to-play MMO, titled Dragon’s Dogma Online. Released in 2015, the game features gameplay similar to the original but also full cooperative multiplayer. Since its launch, Dragon’s Dogma Online has reached more than two million downloads across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC. There is still no word of an English release.

When it was first revealed in Japan, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen was announced as a part of celebrating the series’ fifth anniversary. Since launching worldwide, Dragon’s Dogma has sold over 3.2 million copies.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be launching on October 3 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the price of $29.99. A physical edition of this remastered game has already been confirmed.
