Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for the Souls-like sequel Code Vein 2, introducing the game’s main companion, a mysterious girl named Lou MagMell.
In Code Vein 2, Lou apparently breathes life into the protagonist by giving them half of her own heart. That invariably links the two together, allowing her to follow the hero’s Pathos and journey through the past — in an effort to rewrite history and save the world. You can see a bit of her story in the trailer below, as well as some brief glimpses at gameplay.
Like the first game, one of the major things that separates Code Vein 2 from other Soulslikes is its companion system, giving you an NPC partner that constantly fights at your side. While the first game featured multiple companions, so far we’ve only seen Lou for the sequel — although the game’s website does state there will be multiple partners.
And while many of the gameplay systems are the same as the first Code Vein, this isn’t a sequel in terms of the story, taking place in an entirely separate world wholly disconnected from the first (which itself had ties to the God Eater franchise). Here’s an overview of Code Vein 2’s story from Bandai Namco,
“In a future world where humans and Revenants coexist… Due to the sudden appearance of the Luna Rapacis, Revenants have transformed into mindless monsters called Horrors. As a Revenant hunter, the player shall halt the world’s inevitable collapse by traveling to the past with a girl called Lou, who possesses the power to manipulate time.
An epic adventure awaits, where you and your chosen partners explore a post-apocalyptic world, face fierce battles against powerful enemies, and uncover an epic story that transcends time.”
Code Vein 2 launches on January 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
