Daredevil Restarts Production & Is Looking For New Writers

Amid a general rehaul of its TV business, Marvel has quietly decided to hit reset on the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series due to the show’s pacing issues.

Like everything else in Hollywood, Daredevil: Born Again and other Marvel productions were placed on the shelf during the WGA SAG-AFTRA strike, and now that things appear to be picking up again (on the writer’s side) THR reports the Devil from Hell’s Kitchen is undergoing a reset. Marvel has also canned Head Writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman (they will still be credited as producers for the series), as well as the directors on the project as they head toward a creative reboot.

Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, said, “We’re trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture,” in reference to the studio’s previous silver-screen productions. Previously, Marvel would utilize the way they make films as the backbone for their TV series and placed dependency on film executives to run their TV programming. Daredevil: Born Again reportedly functioned more as a “legal procedural” as opposed to the high-octane, risky action direction Netflix took the successful series back in 2015. Charlie Cox (actor for Daredevil and Matt Murdock) apparently didn’t even appear in his vigilante costume until episode four.

While the highly anticipated project is undergoing a makeover, Marvel plans to use some of the footage shot before the strike, seeing as how less than half of the 18-episode series had been shot prior to pressing the reset button. Marvel’s reliance on fixing issues in post-production, similar to how they approach films, is mentioned as one of the main issues they have with their television productions, and with Daredevil: Born Again, they’re aiming to fix these television pacing mistakes before they happen.

While Daredevil: Born Again searches for new writers and directors, fans can only wait in earnest until the Man Without Fear graces their TVs once again.
