DICE 2013 highlights

With the 16th annual D.I.C.E. awards coming to a close, C&G Magazine has your highlights from key note speakers to who won what for this year’s awards show.

Big speakers for D.I.C.E. 2013 included Valve’s Gabe Newell, who discussed the next steps for the videogame industry and was newly inducted in the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. Alongside Newell was J.J. Abrams, director for the new Star Wars films, talking storytelling across platforms and plans to bring Portal and Half-Life to the big screen. Warren Spector also made an appearance with the promise that he was not retiring and is still going to be an active presence in videogame industry. CEO of TellTale games also spoke at the awards on The Walking Dead and Qualcomm spoke on the future of mobile gaming.

Journey made out with eight of it’s 11 nominations with The Walking Dead coming in second with four wins out of its original eight. Even with Journey’s awards stacking up, it did not win its Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, with Trent Reznor, taking home the award instead for his work with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Despite Journey not winning the grammy for this year, the game has still been a major success with awards racking up from across the board. One can only hope that we’ll see another videogame soundtrack nominated for next year as well. But Journey and The Walking Dead weren’t the only games to get awards, so here’s the full list:
